I'm sorry Cathy but that statement is wrong. The #Greens worked with the #Labor govt to improve the #HAFF to include extra money for #SocialHousing. I can find the details if you are particularly interested. Also, what the #Greens have currently done is to delay a vote on the shared equity in housing bill to allow the #Labor govt more time to consider negotiating a better solution. As you can see below, #AdamBandt is happy with the community feedback so far.

The Senate has deferred the government’s housing legislation for two months. The Greens say they want to use that time to continue negotiating and amending the bill, to do more for renters and young people - Labor has countered by branding the Greens and Coalition as a “No-alition”, accusing them of blocking progress.

Asked about how the Greens would combat that full-court press of criticism from the government, which is playing out in parliament as well as across social media, Bandt said his party would continue to “fight for renters and first home buyers and stressed mortgage holders”.

The feedback I’m getting is that people can see that finally, they’ve got a voice in parliament ... I’m getting nothing but good feedback from people who are saying, ‘yes, keep pushing labor to take the housing and rental crisis seriously’.

People can see through those kind of the social media posts and the memes, because every time the prime minister puts on a high-vis vest and says that he’s tackling the housing prices, people go back home and find that they’ve just got another massive rent increase from their landlord they can’t afford, and that their mortgage payments have gone up.

TIL that Albanese's Housing Australia Future Fund #HAFF has yet to build a single house or even (AFAICT) approve a project. If Labor had just spent $500m/year directly out of the budget, instead of this byzantine shuffle to keep the project off-budget, we could have had 000s of houses built by now

I reckon there's an opportunity to save the #HAFF here: dictate that the HAFF is the primary investor in this shared-capital scheme, buying houses with first home buyers.

This would mean HAFF can directly invest in housing (what the Greens want) and be speculative (what the ALP wants).

#HAFF does not build public housing. It funds a neoliberal "investment and asset class" for industry super funds and other capital.

It will do nothing to help the hundreds and thousands suffering in extreme poverty on public housing waiting lists.
