However, it does make me hopeful because this means that the administration does not feel that they have an ironclad defense for the shitstorm they are experiencing regarding the illegal deportation.

Whether that leads to actual consequences for the administration's cruelty is up to Senator Van Hollen's colleagues. Following his example is probably the best way to take on these inept authoritarians.
