President Vladimir Putin signed a decree Monday establishing a Russian version of the Eurovision Song Contest, after the country was excluded from the continental competition nearly three years ago. The new contest will be called Intervideniye (Intervision).

I guess most people haven't heard about #Intervision it was a #soviet version of #Eurovision but only those behind the iron curtain could take part. As #nazi #russia wasn't allowed to take part of Eurovision after their illegal full scale war against #Ukraine and now they will restart the Intervision competition together with other authoritarian countries and maybe some #BRICS countries

Ich bin eine große Anhängerin von #Intervision, #kollegialeBeratung und ähnlichen Formaten, merke gerade aber auch, dass es Committment und etwas Glück bei der Zusammensetung für das Gelingen braucht.

Se me ocurren dos ideas para sustituir la edición de #Eurovisión este año:
- Buscar en youtube o vuestra plataforma de vídeos de confianza grabaciones de ediciones anteriores.
- Buscar a ver si hay algo de #Intervisión, la versión del antiguo Pacto de Varsovia (a la que sin embargo también acudía EEUU) de la gala musical.

In 1977, the competition returned to the Opera Leśna, but the Cold War stakes had been raised – it was now known as the Intervision Song Contest, and the similarity to Eurovision couldn’t be more intentional. Intervision was run by the communist version of the West’s European Broadcasting Union and aspired to surpass Eurovision’s popularity. Interestingly, though, it was still open to all nations. Finland, strictly neutral in the Cold War and perennially unsuccessful at Eurovision, also took part in Intervision. In 1980 its persistence was rewarded as Marion Rung secured the top gong for Finland via the charming question Where is the Love?

That year’s competition was Intervision’s swan song. The following year martial law was declared, the festival was cancelled, and the competition had sung its last. When it returned in 1984, it was back to being the Sopot International Song Festival. It lumbered haltingly on past the end of the communist regime which had birthed it, with gaps in its record as some years saw no contest, until Australian singer Gabriella Cilmi took the top prize Down Under for the first time in 2009 with Sweet About Me (I’d never heard of her, but go Gabriella).

After no contest in 2010 nor, sadly, on its 50th anniversary in 2011, it returned in 2012. It was won by a Swede, a few months after Eurovision was won by a different Swede. Swedish pop music, like its gloomy detective fiction, was on the march.

One thing you may not know: #Finland is the only country to have won both the #Eurovision, and the #Intervision (which was the Soviet or Eastern Bloc equivalent). A feat that cannot easily be matched. The only way would be for #Poland to some day win the Eurovision.
