Marky Ramone’s Holiday Blitzkrieg and a Jamulus server fix that seems to have actually fixed something. In the links: the stalled Atlantic Yards projects shows some signs of life, Prospect Park as urban flood mitigation and Hochul misses another opportunity with congestion pricing.

This week’s random photo is a random pizza guy. The holidays are here and I broke my “buy nothing” tradition this Black Friday, didn’t get much done projectwise, but did update the Jamulus server docker image. In the links: RIP David Lerner, a Repair Café saves the day, “The Knowledge”, NYC city council speaker candidates taking large contributions from Uber, cleaning up the neighborhood while making new friends and more…
I've made lots of musical friends around North America while playing online using Jamulus and Jamkazam.
There was a small hiccup when Windows 10 support ran out and my MOTU interface driver wouldn't work on Windows 11, but I managed to sign up for the 1-year extended coverage for Windows 10, so I'm back online again!

More work done on the (very) personal newsletter and we start working on an original tune during the weekly Jamulus jam. In the links: Hustle culture in Silicon Valley, Brooklyn’s Bike Jumble, MS’s ‘vibe working’ in Office apps, the F&M lines will make a switch in Queens and Trump to NY: “Drop Dead”.

Relaxing the personal YouTube ban (a little), a very rough Jamulus session makes for a good timing exercise. In the links: OpenAI programs models to make things up, Raspberry Pi for sailors, email’s origin story, MS unleashes agents in Teams and questions about what Pete Hegseth is really up to with his big meeting.
Hey #Fediverse!

It was “mini-retirement” week! Among other things, I wrote up instructions on how to run your own Jamulus server and added a calendar feature to the personal newsletter project. In the links: NYC subways set a post-pandemic ridership record, Siberia is back, a call for more rail in the US and vibe code = AI babysitting.

Another random photo, Deep Work and a really good Jamulus jam this week. In the links: New Yorkers walk more than other Americans, an idea for Colbert, and three Deep work/life links.
@creckling @MakerTube @dingodoppelt@makertube.net We're actually using #jamulus :) We are on a server in Frankfurt, the drummer Henrique is from Portugal and has a latency of around 70ms. The pianist Antonio is from Italy and has around 50ms, the singer Fina and me are in germany and have around 20ms latency. The higher the latency, the harder to play. It depends heavily on the instrument and the player how much latency is manageable but we even played across the big pond with americans and canadians. Still feels incredible everytime :)

#AudioMo Day 29: Jona's New Drums.
A quick jam in which Jona, our drummer tests out his new Roland kit, and Alf the bassist and myself try out random chords to see where we go, having no real idea beforehand. We do this a lot and it's great fun to see if we're on the same page or not.
Recorded on #Jamulus in December 2024.
#AudioMo Day 19: Last night on #Jamulus, our drummer had a long delay for some reason, so while he restarted all the things and tried to solve it, I jumped on drums.
Martin (guitar from NL) and Alf (Bass from UK) make up the current trio.
I was using addictive Drums 'Vintage Dead' kit which was ultra-dry, and playing on a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S61 MK3 keyboard.
@markus #Jacktrip is awesome. It has the best latency and overall sound quality but is very hard to set up. Last time I tried I didn't get it to work and gave up on it. I use #Jamulus for spontaneous online jams mostly and it is perfect for that because you get a server list. It feels like the good old online multiplayer co-op gaming experience :) I can imagine Jacktrip could shine in a professional hybrid/online concert situation or other artsy projects. There is another alternative, which isn't in development currently because the developer sadly passed away: HPSJam ( https://github.com/hselasky/hpsjam ) It can send MIDI as well!
