Thank you, #ChrisRoberts, for this (then) epic opus. Of course the technological advancement when it comes to graphics and cineastic cutscenes - you do see that it was the beginning of all of this what we take for granted these days. But back then, holy fck, it was nothing less than jaw-dropping to have real actors and have a cinematic flair to it all. Plus tons of fun playing it (and I still have).

20 years ago I sent a fake story to movie website Ain’t It Cool News, claiming that John Rhys-Davies (in town for a convention) hinted he would be voicing General Grievous in Star Wars Episode III.

They published my email in a take-it-or-leave-it way. Other websites then reported that AICN were “reporting” the rumour. It got more reliable with each retelling. Within days, it had made it to mainstream media.

I learned more about misinformation and the news cycle from this than in my entire journalism major.

But the most interesting thing happened during Rhys-Davies' session. Someone asked if he would be doing any more voice work after playing Treebeard in Lotr, or something along those lines. He said:
"I'm doing some next month, in fact.
Let's say the working conditions are
..Grevious."
Now I'm not sure if that's an exact quote, but he certainly did drop that last word. He seemed to give a little wiggle of the eyebrows too, though it might just be my imagination.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith could see John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, play the part Gary Oldman turned down for its infringement of acting union rules.
Rhys-Davies told a sci-fi convention that he was about to start work on a "Grievous new role" - a possible reference to the part of General Grievous a half-alien, half-robot villain. He has already worked for George Lucas in the Indiana Jones series.
