Attending a #juneteenth event now. As a #trans person, it is important to be intersectional and support groups that you might not be a part of. That is how resistance groups who mutually support each other are formed.

We've been to 3 Juneteenth events in the last few days!

* At Montpelier, last Saturday: Food and music

* At a little park in Orange on Thursday:
- High-schoolers interviewing older people who were the among the first black students attending integrated schools in Orange.
- A show by the newly-formed HS step team (they were great!)
- A talk about black history in the US

* At Bremo Bluff today:
- Re-enactments of local black historical figures
- Lots of music by local musicians!

Ok, this is kinda cool, in a "oooh, cool ancestors" sort of way. A friend of mine was doing research for a #Juneteenth article, and was rummaging around the Smithsonian online collection, and found this picture. In it is one of my forefathers, and I'm just happy to know that my family has been overthrowing tyrants and injustice since the 1200s, no matter which country we find ourselves in. Which is neat. (Although I'm still kinda sad that we had to leave Holland after they boiled a couple of us for being anti-monarchist. I wish I lived in Holland.)
