Lauantaina 15.2.2025 järjestetään Espoossa Haukilahden koululla kobujutsun alkeisleiri, johon voivat osallistua kaikki karaten aseellisesta harjoittelusta kiinnostuneet.

One thing I do appreciate about #kobujutsu (at least the #yuishinkai variety) is that you aim to be off the line, away from the attack line, and there are even circular movements. In many other arts, including some #karate itself, the lines tend to be more straight and direct. Even in some weapon arts.

It is something that most likely any #budo #teacher will repeat, the basics needs to be understood first, learned through #training, and only after that can one start to apply them further.
Kumejima, #Okinawa, #Japan, is the birthplace of Taira Shinken sensei who made sure we have the ability to study #ryukyu #kobujutsu.
Bo-kepin (182 cm) käyttö on pääroolissa #ryukyukobujutsu harjoittelussa. Suurin osa
liikesarjoista (#kata) tehdään sillä ja siten myös sillä harjoitellaan jokaisessa harjoituksessa, muiden #karatenaseet lisäksi.
Alkeisleirillä Espoossa lauantaina 28.9.2024 kello 14:00- 16:30 harjoitellaan juuri tuolla bo-kepillä ja samalla pääsee myös näkemään lajinäytöksessä muiden välineiden toimintaa.

In 2010, #hokamasensei was showing to me what kind of #tonfa variations he had found across the Asian area, in his #karatemuseum in #okinawa.

Yesterday in #espoo #finland we were studying the use of #nunchaku and #surujin, which both share a lot of similarities, while still having their own distinct methods of use.
Surujin is especially challenging to use in the paired drills, perhaps as the control of the ball is not that easy as it would be with a stick, but with a bit of #training, anything is possible.
@sleepyfox the fantastic thing is how different each dojo can be. So when a sensei says ‘This is how you do it in #aikido’ I tend to now take it with a pinch of salt. At the same time I’ve learnt something from every one of the 38 dojos I visited.
I can also count 10 dojos of other arts (#karate x 3, #judo, #hapkido, #kobujutsu, #iaido, #ChoyLiFut, #HEMA, #bujinkan). Also 3 separate clubs that were physically in the same dojo as one of the others (2x #DaitoRyu, 1 Karate). AMA :D

Huh, managed to tear my smooth fabric #NoneCircles gi top in #DaitoRyu today (hip throws). Lasted a couple of years. I prefer smooth fabric to the rough rice weave ones you usually see in #aikido and #judo tops. This one was marketed for aikido but I have a feeling the fabric might be from a heavy karate top. Sorry @karatejukka, I might have to use some rougher top for #kobujutsu now…
#sai versus #bo (stick) is often finished with a move like this, by utilising both of them.
The #training of #kobujutsu or #karatewithweapons is about getting a grip of the #bo first, followed by #sai.
