This is the experiment I was planning when I forgot to stop down (posted a few days ago). 6 stops of EV in the scene mapped to 5 zones in the neg via N-1 dev. The negative looks great (although I already think it would be hard to print unless on very low contrast paper.) I'm doing some experiments with Fred Newman on densitometry and ID-11 instead of HC-110; the ID-11 is a little less contrasty to the eye than the HC-110 (which probably means it's a lot less contrasty to the densitometer). Because the Sony is a 14-bit capture, it is a lot easier to work with the scans than the 8-bit flatbed scanners I was getting from the lab.

As a test shot, this was a successful experiment; as a photograph, technically, it needs work. I determined my exposure settings on the branch with a spot meter, but didn't really consider the issue of separating the branch from the background. Most of the work in post was burning down the background to get good separation.

Early tests with 5x7". Using my old 1950's camera.

This is a crop from a shot that had multiple issues. I was planning on f/64, but after a last moment re-check, I forgot to stop down. Not a deathless shot, but I thought it would be interesting to try to get an image anyway. Details in thread.

8x10 Wista Field large format film camera

My very first 8x10 large format camera shot. Unfortunately, I was still inexperienced and too impatient to wait for better lighting conditions. It was exposed on positive film, which barely reaches the contrast range of this scene, so that the shadows were actually underexposed I didn't have a graduated filter back then.

I scanned the sheet with my Epson v700 and a homemade film holder. The results are excellent.

Morning mist lies on the meadows shortly before sunrise.

I found this recording by chance in my archive. It is one of my first attempts with a large format 4x5 camera. I guess I just forgot about it and never scanned it. It is always exciting to scan negatives and only then see the real result of a shot. But after so long, it's a real surprise and brings back memories.

For the recording I used a Linhof Technika III. I had the film developed in a lab and scanned the negative with my Epson V700.
