Back in "the village".
When I took this photo, I remember there wasn’t much appreciation from the people involved — more a kind of tolerance.
Sometimes I try to capture moments of what’s happening in the community around me.
The strange thing is that everyone is constantly taking pictures with their phones, and that’s perfectly accepted, while a real camera often draws suspicion.

This image suddenly became meaningful when one of the people in it passed away unexpectedly… Photography is also a form of archiving — and it certainly doesn’t need to happen that fast.

“Do not spit from ride. Remain seated.” warns a sign at one end of the SkyRide, an overhead chairlift that runs from one end of the main fairground to the other. People stroll around below with the midway in the distance.

Food stands from roasted corn to deep fried cheese curds. The main ferris wheel towers beyond.

“Chunks o Chicken” and “Curly’s Fries”, people silhouetted by the afternoon sun that flares the end of the frame, SkyRide overhead.

The old fashioned carnival swing and ferris wheel split the frame with an arc of swingers between.

The Ex was a perfect end of summer fair this year. I carried one camera and lens and spent eight rolls of film. Here’s the second set.

Maybe it’s an insignificant little photo, but it captures something we’ve almost forgotten.

Since the sun hits the front of our house in the late afternoon, my daughter and a friend decided to sit out front on a couple of chairs and chat.
Back in the day, this was the most natural thing in neighborhoods, people sitting outside, talking, connecting.

It created a strong sense of community.
