When you find yourself about to say, "I #believe…", stop and think.
Applying #logicalReasoning to #empiricalEvidence leads to a conclusion that you 'accept', not one that you 'believe'.
Belief requires no #evidence or #reasoning, only faith in the messenger.
If you can #believe something that just happens to be true, then you can just as readily believe something that is false.
Do you 'accept' —as far as the evidence and reason lead— or do you not accept?
Having accepted, review regularly.
Why do people like me (us?) put #empiricalEvidence, #criticalThinking, and #logicalReasoning at the heart of our decision making?
Because we know from #experience that it works.
But we still have to 'believe' that past experience is a good predictor of future outcome.
Ultimately, all systems must be based upon one or more #postulates.
I posit three more:
* all people matter to the same order of magnitude as our own people
* the #future matters more than the present

Yes 😀 We throw the word 'believe' around because it's a common term. But, for those of us for whom our basis is #EmpiricalEvidence / #LogicalReasoning , we should perhaps use a word like 'accept'.
I 'accept' the conclusions of science.
People do 'choose' to believe religion, in the same way that people choose to drink alcohol — it's comforting.
Similarly, people choose to accept the nonsense spouted by Farage or Trump — it appeals to their deep rooted prejudices.
