Finally made up a drive pulley for the new-to-me 5HP motor for my bandsaw. The interrupted cut in the 4" square aluminium blank was stressful. I'm looking forward to getting the flat belt on so I can remove the 2HP and v-belts and get some heavier planks resawn.

Ouah! J'ignorais qu'un mince film d'air pouvait servir de roulement (sans bille)!

decided rust is actually bad and went through with blueing this. seeing how well it worked makes me want to do everything I own.

Tobias and Michael from arrested development is a kitchen. Tobias is covered in blue paint and saying "I just blue myself"a metal T slot cleaner sitting on a table. it has a blued finish.

Anybody got an idea what type of collet this is?
Its from a high speed spindle that was found without documentation. Most likely sold by ISEL in Germany.

This one is for 3mm tools, I will would like to get one for 1/8" tools.

Reading papers on CNC machines. As one author put it: "you must convert geometry into time".

Today in the metal machine shop I was using a little used alloy called B E E C H... It's kinda similar to the O A K family of alloys...

To test that everything works before I commit to wood. I printed up a test jig. It needed a little refinement to open up the bores (3d printing is not perfect for dimensions, esp of circles). But then. I could test fit everything.

And it works.

It works better than I ever dreamed it would. The bar in the image slides easily, but with just a quarter turn of the bolt. It locks on place. A quarter turn is all it takes. From free moving to locked. Now I need to buy the wood.

A red 3d printed block. Going through the block in one direction is a polished steel bar. The edge of a bronze bushing is just visible in the block. On top of the block in the far corner a thick washer and a hex drive bolt is visible. The whole assembly is on a wooden workbench.

And that's all the metal machining for this project done. It works! It bloody well works!!!

Amazingly the jig I made to help manufacturer worked brilliantly. I'm so pleased.

Two polished steel arms, one lays left to right, one the opposite. On one end of each is a small bronze bolt and about 12mm from the end is a slight groove, indicating a join.

Near the middle of each arm is a bronze bushing that sits round the arm. Perpendicular, and off centre a brass round piece sits. A thick steel washer and a stainless bolt are fitted to each of the brass parts.

Unusual (and interesting) shop tips.
Nice shop.

Beyond extrusion and surface finishing, we also provide precision machining and assembly services for our customers! As shown in the picture, we assembled this set of aluminum profiles for a client. To make their work easier, we delivered it as a pre-assembled package, saving them time and increasing efficiency. Solving customer challenges is what we do best! 💪

After I finished work on my primary project yesterday afternoon, I had a bit of time left until the 3d print finished. So I decided to have a play with my new self made sensitive drilling attachment.

Aim was to drill a 0.5mm hole in some brass.

I achieved that with minimal breakage. I've just had a chance to test the hole with gauge pins.

500µm pin fits.
600µm doesn't git.

I'm considering that a big win.

Do not underestimate the usefulness of a pencil in the machine shop...

A bronze tube in the chuck of a lathe. A blue pencil is held in the tailstock chuck with the far end of the pencil disappearing into the depth of the tube.

The chuck is spinning and a parting tool can just be seen beyond the tool post.
