I have a question for all my fellow machinists and manufacturing nerds on here!
In the core of a lock there's the keyway, which commonly has a awkward prismatic shape, open on the top, and with the invers cross section of the key. How is that shape manufactured?
The only way I could think off is with a broach, but that seems horribly high effort in manufacture. And (some) locks are cheap, and they still have weird keyways.

Here is a job for @jones (who for some things has more patience than me…): a script to make a list of all the videos in a YouTube channel, to have yt-dlp saving them in a long queue.
And this is the easy part… file names must be prefixed with a number in chronological order, so my not-so-smart TV can sort the videos on the USB stick in a smarter way.

Smart use no. 5,452,274 for a 1-2-3 block: bolt it to the side of your precision vise as a stop for the part you're #machining (the face of the block is perpendicular to the bottom of the vise, so you don't have to deal with squares).

Well I just took the spindle out of my old #lathe and put it back in again, aligning the inner races of the angular contact bearings in case that was a factor in my spindle wobble. A last-ditch effort before buying a new lathe.
The result: 0.01mm run-out along the axial bearing surface of the spindle, which magnifies to enormous wobble in anything in the chuck. I think I bent the end of the spindle when disassembling it originally. Functionally ruined :(

Well I needed some shim steel to fiddle with the way clamps on my tiny Chinese #lathe and the best way to get a decent range of shim stock was to purchase some feeler gauges. I just have to learn to drill them for the clamping bolts and figure out which shims work best. It’s going to be a nice project when the temperatures rise a bit and I can bear to touch any cast iron :) #machining

I'm thinking to add an escapement mechanism to my metal shaper, to rotate the piece by steps at every stroke of the ram, without having to deal with servomotors, sensors, g-code, etc. when I want to make something round(ish).
After that ,it's just a matter of choosing the right gears to rotate the piece around the Y or the Z axis.
Maybe @attoparsec (who has both a metal shaper and an escapement movement as logo for his Youtube videos) has clues…
