Acer rubrum seedling. It's now 5 years old and already looks amazing. It's a seedling from A.r. October Glory, but these leaves are much wider. I love it. Leaves are palmate and toothed. They measure around 5 inches wide and long. Currently showing glowing orange, yellow and red autumn tones.

It's the #Malvern #Autumn #Show this weekend. This is something that we have been to many times in the past, but I think we will give it a miss this year, though.

Acer rubrum October Glory has started tonfure up its autumn colour outfit. We have two different types of Acer rubrum in the garden (October Glory and Fairview Flame), so it will be nice to whether they are really that different from each other.

October Glory has mostly 6 segmented leaves with nicely toothed edges. Colours are looking bright so far. I bought this as a rooted cutting from a UK nursery but am not entirely sure that it isn't just a seedling.

Either way, it's lovely.

Autumn is our favourite time of the year, so I have planted many things that provide a fiery lift as their foliage transitions from one season to another. I bought this Acer freemanii Autumn Blaze as a young tree and am going to pollard it every 2 to 3 years, so we will have a manageable sized bush that becomes a Blaze of gorgeous reds and oranges every autumn.

The tree was a chance find by Glenn Jeffers in the US, way back in the 1960's. It's a natural crossing between acer rubrum and acer saccharinum. It is also known as Jeffer's Red.

If left to its own devices, then the tree would grow to about 40 feet tall.
