The best stuff on the internet is found at #metafilter. It is my north star, my longtime online #home, my distributed community of kind, smart people. When conversing with interesting, very online people, I name drop metafilter - odds are good that they're a longtime member.
Its nice.
I think of that space as like what I always hoped #church would be - welcoming, thought provoking, #esoteric, hilarious. I tend to evangelize; I have yet to meet a #mefite in the real world who wasn't fascinating friend material. Ended up marrying one.
Online communities that aren't selling data about what your eyeballs are doing aren't exactly #profit centers. At #Metafilter, these days we mostly self-fund to keep our staff well compensated (#mods get health benefits!). We're doing some fundraising this month to keep things going.
That said, we do projects. Here's our #MeFiGiftGuide2022, a massive project spearheaded by our Steering Committee.
