So sorry to learn of the death of Michael Hurley. The attachment is a screenshot from a Smithsonian Folkways mailing that arrived this afternoon. My old singing partner was a solid Michael Hurley fan.

Just learned that Michael Hurley died this past week. What a legend! I was lucky enough to meet and speak with him a couple times, even put him up on the couch once long ago. Was one of a legion of people who bought him a 6 pack of Carling Black Label at one time or another. I saw him perform from when he was in his 30s to his 70s. RIP sir, thank you for being you, with so much enthusiasm! #MichaelHurley

Vor etlichen Jahren war ich im Berliner Monarch bei einem Konzert von Michael Hurley und habe dort vor lauter Begeisterung ein Ankündigungsplakat von der Wand abgegnibbelt. Das Plakat hängt heute noch an meiner Wohnungstür. #RIP #MichaelHurley

Ein Plakat mit Konzertterminen von Stephen Steinbrink, Paul Metzger, Michael Hurley, Charlie Parr und Chuck Johnson. Auf dem Plakat ist oben links das Sternenbanner abgebildet, nur dass anstelle der Sterne der Name "Smithsonian Folkways" steht. Daneben ist der Schriftzug "a series of American Folk Music Concerts". Darunter steht groß und in weiß der Satz "Since the devil is gone I mostly feel lonely". Darunter dann musiziert ein Banjospieler, dessen Gesicht bis auf den Mund komplett von Kopf- und Barthaar bedeckt ist. Daneben steht eine schwarze Schallplatte, auf deren Label "Alan Lomax" steht. Links und rechts stehen zwei nackte Teufelchen mit Hörnern und Schwanz. Musiknoten fliegen durch die Luft. Unten rechts stehen ein paar Grabsteine. Auf einem ist der Name "John Fahey" zu lesen.
