I'm curious, has anyone got any experience with those cheap #minipcs on #aliexpress? Maybe for #selfhosting or #mediacenter use?

Question for folks who use #MiniPCs: does anyone know what the proper, searchable name for those little mounting things that come with them is? I'd like to get one or two more for putting the computer in different locations. Boosts greatly appreciated on this one. Thanks!
The company that made my mini pc, #HerkPC , sent over some other products for me to test out and review. Which is fantastic, as I have been loving my daily driver you can see in the pic, and I'm really excited to do more tech reviews on the #PolyTools channel
The #HerkOrion was something I backed on #indiegogo and it is one of the best #minipcs on the market despite its small size! I'm looking forward to testing the #HerkPulsar and #Booster01

Amazon Prime Day mini PC deals (Oct 9, 2024)
Amazon’s Prime Big Deals Day runs through midnight Pacific Time on October 9, 2024. And that means you’ve still got time to score deep discounts on a wide range of products including smartphones, tablets, laptops, headphones, chargers, and other accessories.
It’s also a pretty good day to pick up a cheap (or at least discounted) mini PC. Want to set up a home file server? The KAMRUI AK1 Plus […]
The Minisforum MS-01 is a beast for homelab / server. I got the barebones kit and put the 96 GB Crucial kit verified to work with it from the ServeTheHome forum thread in, plus two WD N700 2TB NVMe SSDs in a RAIDZ1. I went with these drives because they're reasonably priced and they have a TBW of 2500, which is over 3 times that of the Samsung 990 Pro if memory serves. Enterprise SSDs were too expensive for my taste, and with a used one I couldn't be sure how worn out it was.
I've got it running Proxmox and I've played around with it a little, but I'm still trying to make remote management via AMT / vPro work through Mesh Central (and maybe Mesh Commander, I couldn't get it to work at all when I tried). Mesh Central can manage it pretty well, but I can't get AMT work to where I can enter the BIOS from my desk without having to unplug the MS-01 and tote it over to my desk and hook it up to a dock, etc. When I can get that working, that's when I'll finally be ready to tuck the cables behind everything and get to work setting up VMs. I don't really want to get infastructure I'm dependent upon up when I'm rebooting the thing all the time the way I am now.

Cyber Monday 2023: Mini PC deals
It’s easier than ever to find a halfway decent mini PC in the $100 to $300 price range these days, thanks to a flood of models featuring Intel’s low-cost, low-power Alder Lake-N chips. And that’s even more true than usual this week, as PC makers and retailers offer Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
Meanwhile, folks looking for a bit more power can […]
@matt Have you ever looked at the #MiniPCs that have laptop chips inside? I have two of those and frankly, they are amazingly capable. I don’t think most people realize they exist or what the benefits are: low cost, VERY low power draw, flexible enough to run #Windows or #Linux very easily.
Some thoughts after buying my first one, which I’ve now relegated to a #homelab server and bought a more powerful one for daily use: https://www.kctofel.com/so-my-new-desktop-pc-was-delivered-in-a-padded-envelope/
Bet you could get a review unit lickety split!

Many mini PCs with Intel Alder Lake-N processors seem to have Intel AX101 wireless cards for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth. Most Linux distros won't recognize the card out of the box. Upgrading to the Linux 6.4 kernel seems to help... but it's still pretty wonky. https://www.cnx-software.com/2023/07/07/fixing-wifi-6-on-linux-in-alder-lake-n-mini-pcs-intel-n95-n100-core-i3-n300/
