Well, I see the end of #mozillasocial a bit different than the hardcore fediverse fans. It's a bad sign for Mastodon, too. If we don't get off our horse and solve the obvious problems of the network, it will go nowhere for mainstream.
I can't believe Moz getting dizzed for turning off their instance when measly 270 users where using it.
I still reminds me of XMPP. Was the best, os community denied features normal users want, even when Google tried to force it with Google Talk, now it's a zombie.

The Mozilla community is building the global movement to reclaim the internet because we cannot allow a small number of powerful companies to have such an enormous impact on our online experiences. If those companies are allowed to go unchecked, we are increasingly going to find ourselves living in a world in which we, the people, are the product and our personal data is collected and then sold for a profit

So hilarious how easily people are triggered by the announced shutdown of mozilla.social. Even if that doesn't mean that the Mozilla folks will leave the Fediverse altogether rather than joining another instance.

People seem to try to call for a total global boycott of everything that Mozilla has ever laid their hands on. From their iPhones and their stock Android phones on which they still use Google Chrome on factory settings and their Windows laptops on which they're ready to uninstall Firefox and switch back to either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

Apple. Google. Microsoft. So what, at least none of them is Mozilla.

Oh, and people also prefer closed-source Vivaldi over free, open-source, inherently secure LibreWolf because the latter is a Firefox soft fork.

Speaking of which, I guess the preferred migration destinations of the mozilla.social users are:

social.vivaldi.net (to spite Mozilla)
mastodon.social (for dummies)
Bluesky (if you already have to move, you may just as well go where the UI is the closest to your familiar Twitter)

Seriously, I expect absolutely none of them to move anywhere in the ActivityPub-connected Fediverse that's neither Mastodon nor Threads.

Why did Mozilla open the server in the first place, then?

TBH I don’t care about mozilla.social shutting down. Sorry, not sorry.

What I am (we are) mad about is the lack of consistency, long-term vision, and reliability of an organization that supposedly fights #BigTech but is turning more and more into what it stands against.

It is ridiculous and sad that mozilla.social is closing down not (only) because of this decision, but because it is the blatant symptom of a behavior that is making us all (contributors and volunteers in the first place) lose trust and enthusiasm towards #Mozilla.

(And yes, of course I am fckng mad for all the other things you listed, too!)

これ、#Mozilla の :mastodon: #Mastodon 単体で考えればべつにアカウント引っ越しもできるし、ユーザーには逃げ道があるという意味で（その手間がかかるとはいえ）それが :fediverse: #Fediverse ⁂ で良かったね、という話も出来るんだけど、
いかんせん、それ以前に「 #Mozilla 大丈夫？」という印象のほうがネガティブな意味で大きい。
どっちかって言うと #MozillaSocial よりも #Firefox のユーザーへの心象というか影響を心配してしまう。

世間的にも冷遇されつつある #Firefox をユーザーがどういう気持ちで応援して使ってるかということを考えると、こういうふうに #Mozilla がどこに向かってるかわからないフラフラした動きをしている（ように見える）のは、結構心が折れるきっかけになりかねないんじゃないかな…
自分も今はあんまり最近は #Firefox 使う機会がかなり減ってるけど、それでも歴史あるブラウザーエンジンが健全な Web のために #Firefox の中で生き続けてほしいと応援はしているので、色々心配になってしまう。

本分である #Firefox の改善に注力するんだと思いたい。（がんばれ
