Tom Waits and Bette Midler are singing about not talking to strangers while sounding like two people who've talked to a lot of strangers.

It's almost closing time at the #NittyGrittyDiveBar
In the early 1980s, "Single Women" went from an SNL sketch to a Dolly Parton country hit.

I am apparently not original of wanting to listen to Tom Waits in such a place.

I normally spam the crap out of you poor people on Mastodon, and #NittyGrittyDiveBar would describe some of my favorite #Music, so I've held back today to try to show some restraint and compassion. Sometimes, though, you just need to play some Tom Waits, so let's sneak one in at the end of #TuneTuesday.

For this week's #TuneTuesday we're looking songs that would fit into a #NittyGrittyDiveBar. Here in Germany you'd probably be exposed to some cheesy Schlager music. If you're lucky, it's from the 1970s, if not, it's newer. It's bearable only with lots of alcohol.
So instead, I'll join Mr Richman and escape to a lesbian bar with him.

Ok one more #TuneTuesday in that #NittyGrittyDiveBar. I'm interpreting the theme as music you want to hear played live, in a pub that's seen better days.. and woah here's Phil Lynott..

a german song that fits best for the theme:
Leben in der Bar (Living in the bar) by Lassie Singers
#TuneTuesday #NittyGrittyDiveBar ...
not really sure I really understand the theme but here's the kind of music that used to play a lot when I attended that fucked up little bar we called home back at university ...

For closing time for #NittyGrittyDiveBar something from the deepest austrian Mind:

#TuneTuesday with a #NittyGrittyDiveBar theme.
The conversations I've been having last night and this a.m. have focused somewhat on Atlanta... a college friend just discovered that another, long-lost friend of ours has been living outside Atlanta, unbeknownst to us.
Which puts me in mind of this band, which I've always liked and which could easily have been playing in a dive bar in my youth. I know this song is a cover, but they do it well and it's such a darn good song.

"And then I fell in love
With the most wonderful boy in the world
We'd take long walks down by the river
Or just sit for hours gazing into each other's eyes
We were so very much in love
And then one day, he went away
And I thought I'd die, but I didn't
And when I didn't, I said to myself
"Is that all there is to love?"

#TuneTuesday with a #NittyGrittyDiveBar theme. Lots come to mind (Celtic punk, Roger Miller, many more), but for those times when you want to savor a wallow and let the vibe ricochet around like a pinball:
