The Sovereign Web Ring is Live

Hey everyone! Just a quick update!

After 2 days of hard work, I’ve finally got the Sovereign Web Ring and directory erected. It would have been up sooner but I ran into a couple challenges and I really wanted to make sure it was polished before I released it. I’ve also done a little extra polishing on this subdomain as well and feel really happy with the new aesthetic around here.

I’ve also decided to republish some of my social media marketing posts. I saw a few people referring others to Webring Wednesdays as a resource for finding new webrings and I don’t want to take that away from anyone if they found it useful. I might continue to do webring features within a different capacity in the future but I’m going to need a better social media automation system before I consider doing regular features again. Keeping up with regular features is already quite a bit of work. Taking time to post them on several social media platforms manually and even semi-automated also takes quite a bit of time. I’m pretty determined I’ll find a good system for this eventually though.

Anyways, I just wanted to invite everyone to check out this new webring. 🙂 While it is a different branch of the personal web, I absolutely want to extend the invitation for everyone within the small web / indie web to join this new ethos if it aligns. I’ve seen a lot of gatekeeping during my time in these spaces (I was part of the small web for over 2 years before I branched off) and I don’t know if the Sovereign Web will help be a remedy for that, but I think it will really help make space in this niche for everybody, and unify people supporting true diversity and inclusivity. 💜 We don’t all have to agree with what we’re all doing in our own spaces. We don’t all have to follow the same path. We don’t all have to think the same things. We don’t all have to share the same values. We are all different. Some of us are here for the same reasons, some of us are here for different reasons. It’s all valid. So I hope that this will be a really positive thing and help people find community no matter where they’re at or how they choose to experience this creative hobby. 🙏

The old ‘my telephone line is also my internet line’ was an interesting problem. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Sci-Fi movie with a similarly mundane, disrupting feature in their imagined technology. Wonder if there were any 1950s movies that were like “In the future we have this planet annihilating laser, but its engine is powered by the percolator. And its very fragile. So just a heads up, you cannot make space coffee on the same day you blow up a planet.”

❤️ Monday Memes #16 ❤️

You don’t have to stay. You don’t have to believe big tech when they tell you other alternatives aren’t worth you time or energy. That’s what they want you to believe, so they can keep profiting off of you. You might say “but everyone is still on those platforms”. You don’t have to be a follower and wait for someone else to lead you to better alternatives. You have the power to be your own leader, step outside of the box big tech has confined you to – confined us all to for so long while they stripped away our online creativity, our privacy, our freedom. The current corporate state of the web doesn’t have to be the future. You are not powerless because you are “only one person”. You are powerful because you are one person that can be brave enough to try something different from the status quo, and that in itself can create incredible change. It only takes one person to start a ripple. You can be the one to inspire others who were not brave enough to step outside of the box first. ♥ If you’ve been looking for a sign, this is your sign.

Happy Monday!

This webring is both about fandom and carrying forward the Care Bears’ original message: sharing, caring, and helping others feel a little more loved. 💛 Webring Wednesday #18 💛 | The Fanfiction Webring

The Fanfiction Webring is a love letter to indie fic writers and personal archives, offering a space for creators who still maintain their own little corners of the internet. If your site is home to fanfic and not hosted on a giant platform or algorithm-driven archive, you’re exactly who this ring was made for. It’s a place where fans can find each other, share their stories, and enjoy the freedom of self-hosting without all the clutter of modern fandom spaces.

What’s great is how open and flexible the requirements are—as long as your site currently features fanfiction, you’re welcome. Whether you’re posting epic sagas, drabbles, or genre-blending crossovers, the webring respects your creative autonomy and isn’t here to censor or curate your content. It’s about reclaiming the joy of fandom and connecting with others who still believe in building a little world of their own on the web.

💛 Webring Wednesday #23 💛 | Gen Lissa Webring

The Gen Lissa Webring is a heartfelt throwback for the web kids who never left. If you cut your teeth on HTML back in the late ’90s or early 2000s, especially with a little help from Lissa Explains It All, then this webring will feel like coming home. It’s made for folks who still run personal websites or blogs today, even after the rest of the world traded in GIFs for grid feeds. It’s a love letter to a simpler, sillier, more sincere internet—and a warm welcome to anyone still building by hand in a prefab world.

More than just nostalgia, Gen Lissa is about continuity. The web may have changed, but the spirit of creativity, exploration, and community lives on in these sites. Being part of this webring means you’re linked with others who remember when webrings were the way to discover cool stuff, and who still believe there’s magic in surfing from one personal page to the next. If you’re still here, still coding, still vibing… this is your generation.

Come cimelio

LordBBH has a most excellent website, of the style that those/old of us remember fondly, made out of plain hand-coded HTML scrolling down the finite-length page, with images and writing. If and when RSS ever dies, I think I may finally be forced to empathize with people who complain about how bad web content is these days. Using anything other than RSS for content discovery seems like a bad time.
