Implementing and caring for open standards is the core of our work at @okfn β e.g. #opendefinition, #frictionlessdata, #opendatacommons etc. Now, in a key moment for democracies worldwide, we are turning our attention to electoral processes π§΅
We created the #OpenDefinition and can help you solve the technical, social and legal challenges of opening up data. If you need an #opendata strategy, just drop us an email π§ https://okfn.org/our-services/tech-services/

This time we sought a greater level of detail. "Machine readability" was the most discussed topic. Check out the full documentation ππΎ

Here it is! It took us a few days to compile everything we heard at #RightsCon about the #OpenDefinition, and now we're reopening the process as it takes shape.
π€ Spoiler alert: the "Machine Readable" article was the most discussed!

It's already many moons old, but I still like the elegance and simplicity of the #OpenDefinition:
βOpen data and content can be freely used, modified, and shared by anyone for any purposeβ
I only wonder if open data isn't a subset of open content. Perhaps there's some potential for a little more reduction.
The #OpenDefinition discussion is starting to gain traction on our forum π£οΈ https://discuss.okfn.org/t/key-takeaways-from-the-mozfest-session/11589/5

Open Knowledge Foundation are kicking off a process to update the Open Definition: https://blog.okfn.org/2023/03/16/updating-the-open-definition-to-meet-the-challenges-of-today/
The #OpenDefinition was a defining tool in #opendata advocacy, providing a focal point for action by groups with often quite divergent interests - but who could coalesce common point of pushing for 'open' against a binary opposite of 'closed'.
But as Paradox of Open (https://paradox.openfuture.eu/) essay explores, open is more complex today - and new approaches needed.
~50 people have already bookmarked our #MozFest session. It will be great to (re)discuss the #OpenDefinition with so many people. Don't miss it!
Reminder: it will be a multilingual session in π¬π§πͺπΈπ§π·

Why did we decide to rethink the #OpenDefinition in 2023? Learn directly from our CEO @avilarenata:
"Creating a bridge between old definitions and new discourses is important to keep the open ecosystem alive and current."
