Call to Worship
Optional: the congregation may say together the words in bold.
O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
high above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants
come songs of praise which defy the powers of evil.
Entrusted with the honour of stewarding your creation,
we serve and praise you.
O Lord, ruler of all
All glory be yours!
based on Psalm 8
Let us worship God.
Prayer of Approach
Let us pray.
God of all creation
to you we bring our praise.
In your wisdom
before time began
you created all that is.
Like a master worker
you delight in all you have made.
And your wisdom is still at work in creation
playing among us
and calling us to ever deeper knowledge and understanding
of your mystery, your power, and your love.
We see your majesty
reflected in the skies, in the mountains,
in animals, fish, birds and insects-
from the largest whale
to the smallest bacteria-
all this is from you
and all these are your gifts
to keep us alive and thriving.
Yet you saw us drift from Divine Wisdom
as we selfishly tried to go our own way.
Therefore, you sent your Wisdom in human form:
Jesus, the carpenter of Nazareth
whose life and teachings
speak of a wisdom beyond human understanding
and whose death and resurrection
point to the depths of your divine love.
And Christ has promised us his Spirit
to guide us into your truth
helping understand the words of Scripture
and draw us deeper into your wisdom.
Your glory is above the heavens
and your wisdom is beyond our comprehension-
but you are mindful of us, and care for us:
power and glory belong to you, Sovereign God!
Prayer of Confession
God of all things,
you have called us to care and protect
your wonderful creation
but we have abused our power
thinking to subjugate the Earth’s complex ecosystem
for selfish ends
and threatening to undo the very things-
good earth, clear water, clean air, a variety of species-
which your wisdom designed
to keep us alive.
Forgive, we pray,
our ignorance, greed and stupidity
which puts your good creation and risk
and which divides us from neighbours near and far.
silence
St Paul wrote to the church at Rome:
Since we are justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
May your faith assure you of God’s forgiveness
and his Spirit lead you to truth and peace.
Supplication
God of wisdom
whose Spirit is at play in the world
to draw us more deeply
into the love of Christ;
enable us, by your Spirit
to make us better stewards of your creation
loving neighbours to our fellow women and men
and faithful, Spirit-filled, joyful disciples of Jesus. Amen.
Dedication of Offering
Let us pray.
Creator, redeemer, and Spirit among us,
You have been generous to us,
and you have called us to be
stewards of your good creation.
Out of your bounty we offer our gifts
to be used for your service
and the spreading of Christ’s Kingdom. Amen.
Children’s Prayer
Creator God,
thank you that you are our mother and our father
and that you care for us as your children.
Jesus, our Friend,
thank you that you lived with people
and knew all that makes us happy or sad.
Companion Spirit,
thank you that you are always with us
helping us know God’s presence with us.
Creator, Son and Spirit:
bless us all. Amen.
