Benefits of ✅ Dumbbell Push Press

The chest push press is an effective chest-focused workout because it combines explosive pressing mechanics with dynamic resistance, engaging multiple muscle groups.

👍 The chest push press activates secondary muscles, including:

👉 Triceps (for elbow extension)
👉 Deltoids (especially anterior delts)
👉 Core and Serratus Anterior (for stability and control)

On the one hand, I'm definitely shaking off a little rust from having taken off from the #gym for so long. On the other hand, my joints and such haven't felt this good in a while. So that's great!

This week I figured out how to record GoPro footage at a better resolution so it can actually be used in these! I also threw in some extra footage of random dog walks and driving around. Might be worth scrubbing through the video to see those bits if nothing else!

I also realized there was a much better encoding option which makes the videos render faster and be a way lower file size. So that's great!

I dropped the ball on closed captions. I'm sorry about that and it's still on my list to get going next time!

Finally got back to the #gym today after some illness and random distractions! Was a totally random day, but I ended up doing a pressing session. Did #PushPress for triples up to about 95% 1RM, then #StrictPress triples every minute on the minute (EMOM) for 6 or 7 minutes. Felt pretty good!

Decided to put the first video on YouTube. If anyone can recommend an alternative YouTube front end I'm happy to link through that. Still searching for a #PeerTube option also.

Anyway, Pressing 5/3/1 Week 1 is here! Next week's goal is going to be a shorter video, and hopefully slightly better audio! Let me know what you think!

Feeling pretty excited to start the new program today at the #gym. Lots of #PushPress and more.

I'm also feeling excited to hear about what others are working on recently. Doesn't have to be
#fitness related even. Just hoping people want to share something important to them they're focused on. Anyone have anything neat going on?

New PR today! 225lbs/100kg #pushpress has finally fallen. I had plans to do a strict press 225lbs, but due to my shoulder issues earlier last year, I stalled out hard on that. Really happy with this though!

Not on video - I pulled it off the rack a second time just to see if I had a second attempt in me. Barely walked it out after that lol. Oi. Long way to go to progress this further, but with the shoulder not being a clown anymore, I've got the ability to work on it now.

If, no, when I hit my goal of a 225lbs single on my #pushpress I'm going to finally buy myself a log for the gym. I've been wanting to try it out and train it for a long time.

Second rep of the third set, I think to myself:

"Past two
#pushpress sets went great. So far this one is too!"
Third rep. Lose balance but manage to recover.
Fourth rep. Moves fine but I bash my chin with the barbell.

lol whoops pay attention me!

Tonight's #pushpress session is feeling really great! My opening heavy set felt really easy and sturdy. I had at least 2 reps left in me, maybe even 3! Doesn't happen every session that's for sure.

Feeling bit slow on the #pushpress tonight. Had kind of an off day, and did a lot of walking before this. So it's probably just adding up.

That being said, my 5lbs jump feels good. Slowly but surely we scale the mountain or something.

My plan to back down and work back up for a few cycles on my #pushpress weight has finished this new cycle. I went down to 145lbs for 5x6 instead of 155lbs. Took about 6 weeks.

So far it's paid off. Felt very comfortable tonight doing 5x6 @ 155lbs, and the opening 1x3 @ 170lbs set felt challenging but fine, just like I expected. Between the big explosive strength improvements, a bit of shoulder pain improvement, and general conditioning, it felt much better.

Of course we'll see how I feel at the end of the cycle lol. So far it's good though!

Related, I wonder when I'll try for another 1RM test. Think I'm gonna give it a few more cycles. Unfortunately I had to abandon my original big goal, but I may be able to get an alt goal by end of the year if all continues going well.

Hit a new PR on the push press tonight of 215lbs/98kg. Last attempt was late last November.

So close to where I want to be! Few more months and I think I'll hit 225lb/100kg.
