Coded straight lines (38minutes of code) with RC creative coding group prompt. I could go on forever with curves, but stopped myself.

A friend showed me a leetcode problem yesterday at the Recurse Center:
Which led me to play for a bit on paper, then drafted a rough a visual toy:

(I haven't actually done any leetcode problems because I often end up on paper and down rabbit holes)
New blog with my thoughts on my time in batch at Recurse Center (RC) and some advice for future RCers: https://bugwhisperer.dev/blog/rc-return-statement/

@ansate Oh, are you doing #recurseCenter? From here or onsite?
It is not yet 9am, I have already had a chat with someone I have never met before about how he might use cycling race data to detect crashes in near real-time.
I tried to summarize some of my Recurse Center activities for the last 12 weeks in a blog post and still probably forgot some stuff because it was jam packed with amazing people, pairing, projects, and study groups.
tl;dr - I did lots of stuff, really enjoyed my time, and plan to continue learning and growing
Starting 3d print of enneper surface created with Houdini - hope it works :) It seems like it sliced ok.
I made a couple of them dance in codepen as well https://codepen.io/fractalkitty/live/EaxQwWx
If you want to try - here is the obj model (no guarantee it will work): https://assets.codepen.io/4559259/enneper.obj

divergent boundaries sketch for today's creative coding group at the RC.
I started with the thought of an ocean floor splitting - a divergent boundary.
Ok - a short interactive fiction with a possible mostly truthful ending is done.
HTML and css only.
Dedicated to Billy Bob (my childhood friend)

This is part of an RC gameJam.
Today - I started working on a game called Lost Signal as part of a recurse center game jam.
It will mostly be a short story - but I hope to do it with html/css only
I hope to have it done tomorrow - we'll see :)
Been working on a little text editor called `uwu` for the last day or so as a learning project at Recurse Center. Finally starting to take shape! There's a welcome message and cursor is movable now. :nkouwu:
This has been so much fun. I've learned all about how terminals work and how things like screen size and key presses work. Will keep plugging away at it.

I roughed out a game of life penguin toy for a few hours today after not sleeping with the storms last night.
It felt good to just write, rewrite and then rewrite what I was wanting to make as I went - I should have recorded (maybe streamed?) how it evolved.
Live:
https://codepen.io/fractalkitty/live/JojRByL
Code:
https://codepen.io/fractalkitty/pen/JojRByL?editors=0110
You get to draw between each frame with your penguin in the GOL, but can't let more that 60% of the grid die or get caught on an unstable iceberg. The countdown speeds up a bit as you keep going.

“Invest six or 12 weeks programming at the edge of your abilities alongside motivated peers. Do a programming retreat in NYC, hybrid, or remotely.”
Sounds interesting as a retreat. Anyone went there already? I'm curious about the experience.
I got accepted to the Recurse Center, a programmer retreat!! :akko_excited: :floofHappy: So happy to have the chance to grow and learn alongside other smart, kind, motivated devs.
Will be going to the US for ~3 months early next year in the NYC area! Can't wait!! :heart_pride:

My update after 3 weeks at the #RecurseCenter: https://annahope.me/blog/rc-week-3/ or plans, meet reality and my energy capacity. I also managed to get a segfault in #Rust/ #RustLang for the first time ever! It was, of course, due to some unsound FFI while using GTK.
They've got hard copies of the D and E Computers and Typesetting books here (METAFONT and Computer Modern Typefaces). So cool! #RecurseCenter
