In computer graphics, there's a challenge to run the old-school game "Doom" on anything. So of course it doesn't just run on fridges and car stereos. It "runs" in Houdini:

a mix of some ideas I've been messing about with last week/weekend, Dan Wood helped to demystify the volume wrangle workflow for me, so I ported some cellular automata code I was messing with (Fredkins Replicator) to that context, and adapted a custom marching cubes setup to work with volumes instead of point clouds

Did you know in houdini vex you can declare a color ramp parameter?
You just have to wrap it in a vector() like this:

v@Cd = vector(chramp("colmap", gradParam));
```

I find it very strange that #Maya supports creation of and importing of a UsdPreviewSurface yet #Arnold simply renders it as pink. Yet Arnold via #Houdini as has no problem interpreting the UsdPreviewSurface. #Blender too has no issue with the UsdPreviewSurface.

Just to note I created the file I am importing into Maya, in Maya to start with. If you use a UsdPreviewSurface it renders pink, but if you use a 'StandardShader' (not aiSS) it converts to UsdPreview upon export.
