I was in much need of this today.
An art pop masterpiece. It will never age, and I will never tire of it.
I firmly believe that you could release this today and it would fit right in, and have the same impact. It still sounds SO fresh. More so than some of their other records.
Same as it ever was.
One of the greatest albums of all time.

the world moves on a woman's hips / the world moves, and it swivels and bops…
for me this is quite the special album. Remain in Light was released during the fall of my senior of high school. my musical outlook was beginning to take hold. I was already a Talking Heads fan before the album came out. I’m not sure I owned any albums by them before this, but I knew much of their music through radio play, primarily on WNEW-FM and (maybe some) WPLJ, and by listening to friends’ albums and tapes.
I saw Talking Heads live for the first time that summer in Central Park, more than a month before the album was released. four days earlier they had played just outside of Toronto at the Heatwave Festival, billed as the New Wave Woodstock. what I don’t think I knew was that they premiered an expanded version of the band there. we were greeted with a ten-piece band – the four original Talking Heads (David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison) plus P-Funk legend, Bernie Worrell on keyboards and synths, underrated guitar legend, Adrian Belew, who had played with Zappa and Bowie and was soon to be a part of the new version of King Crimson, bassist Busta Cherry Jones, who would go on to tour with Gang of Four, Steve Scales on percussion and Nona Hendryx and Dolette McDonald on vocals.
it was like nothing I had ever experienced before. this was a party. I feel like this was my first exposure, at least in a live setting, to truly funk music. I was several years away from beginning my exploration of funk with Some James Brown, Prince, and Computer Games by George Clinton. I remember being mesmerized by this show. if I did not already have a full blown crush on Tina Weymouth I’m sure I did by the end of the show. something I guess about female bassists because I remember also being enthralled by Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth.
almost half their set was from their yet to be released masterpiece – Once in a Lifetime, Houses in Motion, Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), Crosseyed and Painless, and their second encore, The Great Curve. I was primed for the release of this album and it is one that has stayed with me always.
