Judge Restores Migrant Parole For Now, Decries 'Police State'
A #Massachusetts #federal #judge on Friday said she will #temporarily #bar the #Trump #administration from #revoking the #legals #status of at least 10,000 #migrants in the country under a program intended to allow #family members of #citizens or #permanent #residents to #live in the #UnitedStates while waiting for a #green #card. Mr. Mamdani, a democratic socialist who ran on an #affordability agenda,
pledged during the campaign to freeze rent on the city’s nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments.

“We know we are fighting for a #rent #freeze, but that is not the extent of our efforts,”

Mr. Mamdani said. “We will also stand up for tenants, build #new #housing and get New Yorkers into housing faster.”

Mamdani also signed an executive order #revoking all orders issued by former Mayor #Eric #Adams after his indictment in September 2024 on federal corruption charges.

He signed another to create the structure of his new administration with five #deputy #mayors.

Mr. Mamdani said that he revoked the orders that Mr. Adams’ issued after his indictment,
which was later dismissed at the request of the Trump administration,
because that was when Mr. Adams lost the public’s trust.

Two executive orders that Mr. Mamdani revoked allowed federal immigration officials to investigate criminal activity at the #Rikers #Island #jail complex
and created an office focused on #blockchain technology, a passion of Mr. Adams who often talked about #cryptocurrency.
