This is wonderful insanity...
When your ARM powered Acorn RISC PC can have a second 486 DX4 100MHz CPU and run Windows 95 in its own window.
Retro computing is so exciting dabbling with these things it truly is!
More Acorn goodness tonight, this time with the A7000+ - Simon the Sorcerer talkie version on CD, good ol' Chris Barrie!
"Wormholes" 256 bytes intro for #riscos / #riscpc released at NOVA 2025
Write-up : https://www.onirom.fr/wiki/codegolf/wormholes/
Works on A7000, also high end Acorn Archimedes when adapted for mode 13. (320x256)
Sound fixed and RiscOS4 fully installed on the entire 32GB SD card π€©
The machine will need a full recap at some point but for now it all works and has an assigned corner to stay set up in ππ

Working on an Acorn RISC PC600 which had battery damage.
Looking like this without VRAM module ... so the error must be around the onboard VRAM or it's logic.
Any hints where to start?
@BasementDweller3000 I also got Windows 3.1 running on the 486 PC card in my #acorn #riscpc this week. I wondered whether anyone else was installing 3.1 in this day and age, and the answer is βyesβ apparently! #retrocomputing
Today's project is/was to get the extremely rare #Acorn A680 working. Given its rarity and how I seem to be the only one with a working install of #RISCiX (which is a #BSD from the late 80s), I used the #RiscPC with #NetBSD to make a copy of the disk beforehand.
NetBSD dumpfs recognises it as a FFS variant, but rump_ffs won't mount it.
As for the A680, smoke came from the PSU when I powered it on and it didn't work
Variable success with #NetBSD on #RiscPC. Had to use -8 because of toolchain issues. Install kernels kept panicking seemingly randomly, I realised this was when it was trying to beep because of a certain keypress! Distribution kernels panic, but building my own got me to multi-user. Had to use spinning disk, SATA to IDE converters led to lockups. Crucial programs abort (syslogd, ssh-keygen) and I can't login except with rsh. I'll build my own and try again
So my RiscPC has packed up again. Not anything major this time thankfully, but for whatever reason my boot SD has corrupted and now the built-in IDE isn't seeing any SD or CF card. I think the best course of action is to get one of those new ZIDEFS podules as that is verified to work with those CF adapters... But that's gonna be part of a larger re-rebuild I want to do - so expect a "Part 2" to that video I did eventually! π
For now, the Acorn is gonna sit in a sad state waiting for me to afford to fix it... :blobfoxcry2:

Today's project. Get #NetBSD installed on the #RiscPC on some form of storage. Requires a different Ethernet module as the i-cubed EtherH is not supported #retrocomputing
Fixed the RISC PC power supply. Needed a new Schottky diode, and I replaced the optoisolator for good measure. Booted up fine after a CMOS reset. #acorn #retrocomputing #riscpc

Front door is latching again. π Also, the case looks super nice after having given it a good clean.
More fixes: the latching mechanism of the front door seems to always break on these, and this one was no exception. Melted a nail into the plastic as the new mounting point for the spring and burried it into epoxy. That's not going to break ever again. π
