#sculling

Another Monday #sculling on the Wear in Bluewater. A warm for October morning, dry and still. We were joined on the water by a couple of university college boats as we are back in term time. Another standard session showing solid progress although this morning I was really feeling yesterday's 10miles in my legs.

Friday morning #sculling on the Wear. Warmup 5km continuous the cool down with feet out. Still, warm and dry and a decent effort. My arm was a little tender from donating blood last night but other than that no ill effects.

A punchy start to the week, warm up a piece with four resets, the first quarter was a bit metronomic but we found flow, power and cover after the first reset at counts house. The rest of the outing was fantastic and we celebrated with a feet out cool down. I could have done with pogies though, four degrees, dark and dry with a fine mist on the upper third of the river.

A bit of a messy session but back #sculling on the Wear in Bluewater this morning before heading into the toon. Heading to monument I was greeted by a small group two wearing Union jacks as capes and a couple waving around at George's crosses. I didn't get the cause of the disagreement but there was some pushing and shouting. Good to know the right are as prone to factional fighting as the left.
Some shopping, dinner, more shopping then into the mean eyed cat for a beer before catching the bus home.

Saturday #sculling in the rain. Warm up, exercises then a trip at head pace dropping a couple of times for navigation. The weather was as predicted wet but not too cold and still.

Thursday not Friday #sculling on the wear. Dark cool and breezy. This morning we were waved off the landing by a rat we initially thought might have been the otter. Really feeling last night's runs.

Monday #sculling on the Wear. The forecast was wet and windy but we were out and back between showers and the air was mostly still.
Dark now so lights on although the duck sleeping under Elvet bridge obviously missed our bright front light and had a rude awakening. It survived though and so did we. Warm up heads piece in four sections then cool down.

A glorious sunny morning on the Wear. Not our best outing but accompanied by two young swans and a kingfisher. We have had to drop out of our first planned head this year. Aging parents and planned surgery rather the injury.
It's been another horrible week in the world, movement helps.

Monday #sculling on the Wear. A late change of plan out in a single. It was just light enough with a clear sky, lights to be charged tonight to have ready. Lovely cool morning.

Friday #sculling on the Wear. A beautiful morning, cool, clear sky's with just a little mist on the river. Warm up, a solid heads piece then up and in. The water only disturbed by a solitary stand up paddle boarder, I suspect he was more disturbed by us. Next week looks like we will need lights and possibly long sleeves.

Monday morning and back #sculling on the Wear. A steady outing in Bluewater (4x) to get back into it. Getting dark in the morning, I reckon we will need lights next week also possibly need to start thinking about long sleeves.

A gentle Friday paddle #sculling on the Wear. Coolest part of the day. I resorted to wading in wellies to safely boat this morning. The swans are back, cygnets still sounding like chicks but looks like they would win a fight with a rower now. Possibly back to seek revenge. I'm off for the next two weeks so hopefully they'll pick on someone else. This morning I gave them plenty of water.

A gentle post cold recovery paddle in a single this morning. Warm, still and quiet with only ducks, gulls, heron and a kingfisher for company. I managed a conventional boating but if I'm back out Friday it'll be wellies and wading the river level is too low.
I'm not 100% so kept it easy as Im on holiday Friday and don't want to compromise recovery. Tomorrow hopefully I'll get back out running.

Last time out in Bluewater for a few weeks due to holidays. I've been out of action since Tuesday full of cold but decided not to miss the session and have no regrets. A beautiful still morning, cool air, sunny and some fine technical #sculling.

Out #sculling on the Wear before the wind started picking up. A wet darker morning and a solid Monday outing. Even having to wring myself out before going into the changing rooms it's probably the best part of the day. Time to change e job perhaps.

Saturday #sculling on the Wear. The calm before the storm, sunshine but cooler air. The river remains still. Prince bishop's the tourist barge was setting up for the day although I think they are also feeling the lack of water.
Warm-up down to the pool, admiring the view then square blades back up followed by a heads piece going down and back, refocus then counting strokes. A lovely morning although I was feeling meh, possibly picking up my daughter's lurgy or my tolerance for alcohol has dropped to the point where a second glass of wine is one too many. Next stop Tynemouth.

Another Friday #sculling on the Wear. Warm up, heads piece then up and in. Today with the aid of wellies, the water levels have dropped to the point that boating off the landing risks damage so we are wading in and boating from there. Not ideal but the lack of rain seems to be exacerbated by a breach in the weir below the cathedral along with an open or damaged sluice at the old fulling mill.

Saturday #sculling on the Wear. Dry clear morning. Warm up, square blades then a steady 5km piece focused on the drive and rock over.
Off to the Bowes museum and a wander around Barny Castle next to get out of the house. I picked up my daughter yesterday from Newcastle station as she is home for a few weeks catching up with friends and celebrating her birthday.
