I need to share that tree support is absolutely amazing! I've recently switched from #simplify3d to #orcaslicer and don't know how I could live without this support style for so long 😅

Does anyone know a #slicer that does multi processing on a model besides #Simplify3D? Like starting with normal infill and then switching to vase mode and back again?
I actually consider buying a S3D license for this feature.
Builder Extreme claim that the slicer #Simplify3D is open source on their website https://builder3dprinters.com/product/builder-extreme-1000/#1481550558332-c4faffe7-0870. Can't find anywhere else that says this. #3dprinting
@fskornia Checked reducing the infill percentage from 10% to 5% and it said it would only save 5 minutes. With infill at 5% it usually makes the top full of holes, but I suppose for this it probably wouldn't matter. I've never tried increasing layer height. I use #Simplify3D and it has no way to save profiles *or* print settings so I usually try to avoid messing with them. (Learned the hard way too many times.) Actually I guess that's wrong. It can save them but it has no way to load them.
What slicer do you use for 3D printing, and why?
I used to use #Simplify3D which has a relatively good interface and was mostly straightforward - but the company has a bad attitude and it lacked some essential features, it was then abandoned for years and the resurrected version is a paid upgrade for dubious benefit.
Then I switched to using the smartavionics fork of #cura, because it has speed and fan control for overhanging walls. But i dislike the cura interface, it is confusing and badly designed and profile management is a mess and the whole thing is clunky and unintuitive, and the interface is slow.
so I'm looking for alternatives.
I'm looking for:
*clear interface and good preview
* good profile management and easy transfer of profile files and printer definitions to other systems
* works on mac and linux (and pref win too but less critical)
* sophisticated features for difficult prints such as fan and speed control for overhanging walls, good settings for bridging, well designed supports, 3D infill patterns and so on.
any suggestions?
Straight from the 3D printer, spent a while creating my own final layer ironing procedure in Simplify3D 5. The results are now super smooth with virtually no layer lines!
The firmware and #slicer are definitely 1.0 releases, you can feel it, but for a first entry it very functional and impressive. I already switched over to using #Simplify3D v5 instead, which works fine. Just the gimmicky AI feature is disabled because there are no reference images generated for the camera to compare with during the print.
Oh wow, looks like Simplify3D v5 is finally available!

One of my favorite #3dprinted parts. The Porcupine cocktail stick holder. #giftideas
Unfortunately I don't have enough sticks to fully populate it.
I really love the new variable layer height setting in Simplify 3D 5.0

I started building a small 3D printer almost 3 years ago. I had gotten inspiration from others bought. Then came a move, listlessness but now I’ll finally continue. Basically, there is not much left to do. #3dprinting #solidworks #diy #simplify3d
SuperSlicer Reviewed: Another 3DP Slicer?
When you think of slicers for FDM 3D printing -- especially free slicers -- you probably think of Cura, Slic3r, or PrusaSlicer. There are fans of MatterControl and many people pay for Simplify3D. However, there are quite a few other slicers out there including the one [TeachingTech] has switched to: SuperSlicer. You can see his video review, below.
Of course, just as PrusaSlicer is a fork of Slic3r, SuperSlicer is a fork of the Prusa software. According to the project's home page, the slicer does everything Prusa does but adds custom calibration tests, ironing, better thin wall support, and several other features related to infill and top surfaces. The software runs on Windows, Linux, or Mac.
[TeachingTech] had used a purchased copy of Simplify3D for years. However, he had a drive failure and had to rebuild his profiles anyway, so he tried some other choices. He didn't like Cura's interface. He'd used Slic3r before and since that is the mother of PrusaSlicer and the grandmother of SuperSlicer, it seemed more familiar to him.
SuperSlicer can upload to WiFi printers and has some infill and support options that were not in Simplify3D. The video shows some intelligent features for improving top layers and overhangs if you don't provide the right support under them.
We liked that there is support for Klipper. The built-in calibration prints are good for finding the right retraction and other parameters for your printer and materials. If you haven't used PrusaSlicer and want an idea of what that looks like, you can read our take on it from a few years ago.
