St Joseph's Church, 115 Union St, Lynn MA photographed from Buck Hill. The olive green spire is a little hard to pick out against the brown background and the tip of the spire only just rises above the land behind it.

In front of the church is the Harbor Loft Apartments, 7 Liberty Square, Lynn MA. To the left of that is a fuel storage tank, National Grid, 277-399 Blossom Street Ext, Lynn MA. To the right of the church on the horizon is a water tower, 15 Colby St, Salem MA.

This photo is a great example of the stripes of land and water that form Boston Harbor. The first strip of land below has several houses visible, inclusing several on Lorean Terrace that are in Winthrop MA. The next strip of land is part of the runway for Logan Internation Airport, East Boston MA and to the left of frame a Jet Blue airliner can be seen. Below that is Castle Island, with a view of parts of Fort Independence. While most of the fort is behind trees, the structure can be made out through the bare branches. Below that is Head Island which has what looks like a lookout tower at the tip.

Neptune Towers apartments, 130 Neptune Blvd, Lynn MA photographed from Buck Hill.

I was going through some of my past photo shoots and came across this photo of this pair of apartment buildings reflecting the late day sun. I had not previously identified these buildings or much of the detail seen in this image. This particular day (Nov 2024) was marred by wildfire smoke and air turbulence, but with some corrections, I was able to get a decent resulting image.

As I am looking at the two apartment buildings, I noticed what appeared to be the faint outline of a tower, exactly between the two buildings. At first I thought my eyes were playing a trick on me, but it turns out this is the steeple of Saint Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church, 74 S Common St, Lynn MA.

To the right of the aparment building is the former Mary T Ronan School, 154 Bradstreet Ave, Revere MA. This building now serves as housing for the elderly. Below the apartments and school building there are many houses that can be seen, most of which are on Pearl Ave, Revere MA.

Below the houses and above the water there is a bridge that spans between Saratoga St, East Boston and Main St Winthrop MA.

Below the bridge is a portion of Logan Airport with a couple of jets on the runways. Below the airport is part of Conley Terminal, 700 Summer St, South Boston MA. These look like they are adjoined in the photo, but they are on different pennisulas.

A the very bottom of the frame is an apartment building at 171 Walnut St, Dorchester MA and the spire of the Community Church of Neponset, 51 Walnut St, Dorchester MA.

The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St, South Boston MA photographed from Buck Hill.

I have never been to this place before, but it is a huge structure in terms of area. I would estimate it takes up about ten city blocks. It fills the entire width at the bottom of this photograph.

Some guy in one of the maintenance / golf cart things rode up to me and told me that.

I really don't know why this is a problem. I've never seen those clicky shoe bike riders, who use bike/ped paths as their personal race tracks, on Castle Island.

The Federal Reserve Bank Building, 600 Atlantic Ave, Boston MA photographed from Buck Hill. This building is the sixth tallest building in Boston and was completed in 1977.

Behind this is the office complex 125High, 125 High St, Boston MA. In front is the smaller office building at 245 Summer St, Boston MA. At the bottom of the frame is the P & G Gillette factory complex, One Gillette Park, South Boston MA.

Avalon North Station, 1 Nashua St, Boston MA photographed from Buck Hill. Another study of a downtown skyscraper with all of the other buildings in front of it. Dense with details! What appears to be another building behind it and to the right is actually a part of the same building.

Directly in front of this is the Moxy Boston hotel, which has this very cool pattern of green, black and white on the side of the building. And if you look to the left of Avalon North Station you can see some of the cables of the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. This was a surprise to me when closely examining my photos as I had earlier assumed that the bridge was completely behind all the denseness of the downtown skyscrapers.

The Rainbow Swash photographed from Buck Hill.

The iconic Rainbow Swash art mural painted on the side of a natural gas storage tank is an easy target to view from Buck Hill. It is right off of the I-93 Southeast Expressway. Apparently, the current one is not the original. The original was painted in 1971 and was replaced with this reproduction in 1992. This is the only one I have known.

Looking in this general direction the photos are dense with notable sites. Even in this tight crop of the Swash, there are so many notable details.

Starting at the top... The large building that spans the top of the photo is the Boston Design Center, 1 Design Center Place, South Boston. I will likely circle back to this building at some point and give it a post of its own.

Directly behind the Swash is the Integrated Sciences Complex UMass Boston, 100 Morrissey Blvd, Boston.

Just under and in-front of the Swash is the newly constructed Imprint Apartments, 780 Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester. I could see the construction on Google imagery, but it took me a while to identify this by name.

In front of the apartment complex are two churches. The more prominent has a large brick bell tower, which is St Ann’s Parish, 251 Neponset Ave, Dorchester. Just in front of that we can spy the tops of the two steeples of St Brendan Church, 589 Gallivan Blvd, Dorchester. It turns out that both of these churches are part of the St Martin de Porres Parish.

Lastly, the lone white house in the bottom right, I have identified as 290 Adams St, Milton MA.
