Quote of the day, 4 February: Blessed Marie-Eugene
Renew your consecration to the Virgin. We have seen her as great, certainly far above us; we have admired her—but that is not everything, nor even the essential point. We must also remember that she is our Mother, that she belongs entirely to each one of us. She may not have known us in advance, as Our Lord did. But now, with her wisdom and her penetrating gaze, she knows us to the very depths of our being—our thoughts, our emotions, and our innermost desires.
The Virgin’s solicitude extends to every detail of our lives. With a mother’s tenderness, she watches over our soul’s progress. And if we find that our sanctification is slow, it is because she knows that our strength is not great enough to receive light and love all at once, and that God will give us time.
Let us then make a complete gift of ourselves to her, placing all our trust in her. Let us go to her constantly, passing everything through her hands. We must go to the Virgin to find the Word. Let our prayer, our moments of rest, our work be offered to her.
Let us ask God to place His Mother in our souls; let us ask for the grace to entrust ourselves to her with total, unwavering filial confidence. If we entrust our spiritual life to her hands, it will be sweeter, swifter. She will nurture the grace that is in bud; she will take us as her own, for we offer ourselves to belong entirely to her, to be her children completely.
