New blog post from Bob Dorr explaining inline log I/O flushes in #SQLServer 2019, potential LOGFLUSHQ spinlock contention which may arise if you have larger machines and slower I/O, and what you can do in that case. He also explains how #SQLServer2022 improves the user experience.
Today I used both STRING_SPLIT with ordinal and GENERATE_SERIES in a real world example.
I was busy during the weekend, so I'm catching up on #AdventOfCode. Day 4, first assignment was rows with pairs of ranges. So I used STRING_SPLIT with ordinal to get the row number (it's just a varchar-column to begin with) and STRING_SPLIT with ordinal to get the pair member ordinal. And GENERATE_SERIES to explode the ranges, so I could get the intersection. #sqlserver2022 FTW!
