A photo of a square painting on black paper, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by gouache tubes, coloured pencils, hag stones, crystals, and leaves. The painting features a standing stone with a round hole towards the top, from which emanate a soft blue glow and tiny fairies. The stone stands on a base of soft grass and small white flowers. A cluster of cold green heart-shaped leaves grows snug against the stone.

Down tor row cairn and stone row from a film photo I took over 20 years ago ago. I think I home developed and printed this. Taken on ilford FP4. I doubt I’ll see it again because of my mobility and health. But what a wonderful place it is 🙂.

The Dry Tree menhir stands at the summit of goonhilly downs with three round barrows for company.

Today, it is dwarfed by the satellite station. Its unusual name derives from another landmark which has since disappeared, which I explore in my blog.

One of the standing stones that form the Stones of Stenness on Orkney. The Neolithic monument dates to around 3100 – 2900 BC, and is part of the ‘Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site’. 📸 My own.

Are there menhirs in Sweden? This standing stone lies next to the road from Torslunda to Eriksöre on Öland on the right side of the road. It seems to be isolated.

The terminal menhir (№ 3, B or N4) at the end of Stone Row (№ 3, B or N3) at Drizzlecombe on Dartmoor, Devon. Photographed from the north-east on 27 August 1994.

Colour photograph of the 2.3m tall menhir, at a slight lean in the middle distance, at the end of a prehistoric stone row at Drizzlecombe on Dartmoor. It was a very sunny day with a beautiful blue sky, though the photo shows much cloud to the north-east. The moors are a beautiful patchwork of grass and other short plants in hues of yellow, mustard and purple, and various greens. The moors in the distance are darker, gently curved and torless. Another stone row with terminal menhir can be seen in the distance on the left. A large rainbow and smoky blue light flare can be seen covering the bottom centre of the photo.
