@petealexharris This sort of calculation is based on assumptions of how others will vote. It's an anti-democratic insanity of a system, a reminder of why Scotland should adopt #STV.
But on the maths, so long as the SNP wins more constituency seats than the Greens do, d'Hondt means that an SNP list seat needs a lot more voters than Green list seats. This isn't opinion; it's maths.

The #LabourParty MP for Norwich South is a good critic of #neoliberalism, and of public alienation from politics. He is right that proportional representation could open up politics, tho like most English critics of #FPTP he seems unaware of the importance of #STV.
But all he seems to do about it is 3 or 4 articles per year in #TheGuardian and a few TV appearances.
Radical change requires sustained hard work to build movements. Clive isn't that.
Christ, I just learned that the #Senedd have moved to another terrible voting system than before for their elections.
Under the previous system, you could at least vote for different candidates under the FPTP and party list systems.
Now they have D'Hondt, the closed-list, non-preferential system which saw the British National Party fascists elect MEPs by splitting the opposition vote.
#STV was right there, you guys!
#FPTP voting is obsolete.
But conflating the first sensible alternative to it #STV )single transferable vote_ with #proportionalRepresentation is unhelpful.
Most of us will have a first choice, but many of us will not get that choice elected. But most of us will have a second choice and if pressed could manage to rank the last two parties in order of worst.
And the satisfaction of having your second choice, not your 5th choice, elected is at least moderate.
The two sided house of commons is already outdated as much as it is decrepid and in danger of collapsing into the Thames.
A new building to house parliament is needed with the modern equivalent of a round table for a, single transferable vote, modern democracy.
A second similar building also for a new elected second house would be sensible at the same time.

I expressed a somewhat similar idea to my (Labour) MP a while ago. While we await a sensible voting system. STV for a start, whatever we do with spare votes.
I suspect most Green voters would take Labour as a second choice, over Reform, and many Labour voters would take Green as a second choice.
Quite what would be in the minds of Reform voters, I've actually no idea.

Very cool that the #Washington State legislature is considering HB 2210 a bill to allow cities to adopt #RankedChoiceVoting , including multi-winner RCV, which is a form of #proportionalRepresentation. https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=2210&Year=2025
A similar bill (SB 212, 2019) passed in California to be vetoed by Governor Newsom. If he'd signed it, more cities could experimenting with PR right now. But he'll be gone next year, so maybe we should try again! #ProRep #STV #California #democracy #CaLeg
