@MichaelRoss It appears that a Google seach (on Safari, not the app) using a single seach term and “.gov” returns at least one full screen of federal, state, and local government sites, with no “Sponsored” links. I tried it with “wildlife” and “recycle.” Using “ca.gov” turned up many screens on which all the hits were California state and local government sites. A few found embedded links, rather than the actual page URLs, which was the only way it turned up any local governments who have given up their free .gov URL for cityorcounty.org addresses. (I have no idea why any of them did that.) If the federal government changed from .gov to .us.gov, it would be easy to find their pages without a bunch of state and local pages mixed in. #SEO #SearchEngineOptimization #TLD #Top-LevelDomain #TopLevelDomains #KISS

My preferred Dot CA domain name is currently being cyber-squatted.

Because the content is Canada specific, as will be a number of its would-be sub-domains,

I want the Dot CA.

Yet since I can't have it as I don't want to reward the cyber-squatter

Please help me by suggesting alternate Top Level Domains that to most Canadians would still be kind of a Canadian TLD.

Anyone else think the :Fediverse: #Fediverse taught you a lot of #TLDs you didn't know existed? For instance (pardon the pun), I never knew .bbc, .sucks and .international were TLDs until I came across them in my timeline as Fediverse instances.

I love how people are setting up sites and Fediverse instances with new and emerging TLDs to stand out from the usual .com, .org, .net and others. More sites should have them, especially domain hacks! :MOULE_Happy:

My #Interisle colleagues and I recently submitted a response to the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's consultation, Powers in Relation to UK-Related Domain Name Registries (https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/powers-in-relation-to-uk-related-domain-name-registries).

The consultation seeks input on policies for mitigating domain name abuse and misuse in UK-related top-level domains (TLDs).

We shared findings from our Phishing Landscape 2023 report (https://interisle.net/PhishingLandscape2023.html), and explained why policies and procedures must aim at preventing criminals from maliciously registering names _before_ they are used to perpetrate cybercrimes. We also recommend that the UK use the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime's definitions of harmful activities as its basis for defining prohibited uses of domain names, including facilitating multi-jurisdictional abuse mitigation and enforcement.
