quadratisches bild eines büschels schmetterlingstrameten, senkrecht von oben fotografiert. trameten sind baumpilze, die an totholz wachsen und für gewöhnlich seitlich aus diesem sprießen und dem entsprechend nur eine richtung haben sich auszubreiten. hier jedoch sind sie auf der oberseite eines liegenden baumstamms und wachsen kaskadenartig übereinandergestaffelt rundum und sind deshalb besonders beeindruckend. trameten zeigen wachstumsringe, schmetterlingstrameten besonders farbenprächtige. ganz im zentrum honiggolden bis korkbraun, dann folgen verschiedene blau- und grautöne um dann außen am rand in helles cremeweiß überzugehen. seitlich am baum wächst teils moos und etwas weiter hinten sind unscharf weitere schmetterlingstrameten zu sehen, die wohl feucht sind, was das grau auf ihnen noch blauer und satter erscheinen lässt

von senkrecht oben auf einen gefallenen aber noch ein stück über dem boden hängenden toten baum fotografiert, der waagerecht etwas mehr als die untere bildhälfte einnimmt. die rinde des baums ist an sich creme-weiß, hat aber zackige furchen in denen sie geschwärzt ist, außerdem wachsen ein paar ebenso zackige flecken grünes moos darauf. aus der ganzen im bild oben liegenden flanke des stamms sprießen hintereinander und nebeneinander gestaffelt dutzende grob halbkreisförmige pilzfruchtkörper von sogenannten trameten. aus dieser perspektive sieht das aus wie ein keines wäldchen. die ansatzstellen der pilze am holz sind rotbraun, der größte teil der oberfläche ist dunkelgrau gebändert und der dünne rand creme-weiß. im unscharfen hintergrund finden sich diese farben grün, creme-weiß, rotbraun und grau-schwarz wieder, plus beige.

Frilly semicircular bracket fungi with a brown centre and pale yellowish edge, growing in a 4-5 deep shelf on a wet log in a forest

A beautiful cosmopolitan adds some color to the winter gray forest: Turkey Tail Fungus. It grows on deadwood, breaking down lignin (the substance that makes wood so hard). While not of culinary value, it contains polysaccharides of interest and is used in herbalist practices around the world.

Layers of turkey tail fungi cover an old log as densely as scales. Shades of various bluish grays dominate, interspersed with sind brown and white edges.

Was aussieht wie ein Ohr mit Antennen entpuppt sich bei näherem Hinsehen als #Baumpilz aus der Gattung der #Trameten. Sie sind bis auf wenige Ausnahmen nicht essbar, finden aber als Heil- oder #Vitalpilz in der klassischen Medizin Verwendung.

What looks like an ear with antennae turns out to be a tree fungus from the #trametes genus on closer inspection. With a few exceptions, they are not edible, but are used as a medicinal or vital #mushroom in classical medicine.
