📍Donner Pass Summit Tunnel, Truckee, California

Part of the Transcontinental Railroad built by hand by Chinese laborers in the mid 1800's. Their stories were erased for a long time due to racism of course, but great efforts have been made to bring their hard work and sacrifice to light. (Last pic is 6 foot tall me, for scale 😆)

Travelling through the Sierra Nevadas today. We stopped at the meadow in #Truckee, California where the #Donner Party was snowbound for the winter of 1846-1847. On the other hand, the Stephens Townsend Murphy Party successfully crossed the Sierras in 1844. What was the difference? Teamwork and decision-making in the face of uncertainty. One of the more fascinating lessons of California history.

The water was still enough to see an incredible wave extend in front the beaver’s head. I’ve seen beaver many times but never in such still water and at such a low angle to capture just how far the wave trough is in front of the beaver. What a way to kick off fall in Northern Nevada! #nevada #WildlifePhotography #truckee

Golden tones and faint reflections of distant rushes fill the majority of the frame, the only thing in focus is the nose of the beaver following the wave being pushed in front of its body. Attentive eye shows the reflection of the rising sun.
