WARNING--That story has a misleading headline!

The actual article says a #Waymo car was used one time, a while back, and under permission granted by the Courts for that individual case. The headline makes it sound like they are being used now, without court orders, for mass surveillance. But the text says something different.

The same is true for another story in my feed, about #UberEats #FoodDelivery #robots . The headline is fear-mongering clickbait, but the article says something else.

This is undoubtedly being done as #DISinformation , intended to trigger violence and destruction of private property-- which is exactly what the Right wants: videos of protestors setting cars and #robots on fire.🤦‍♀️

DO NOT GIVE THE RIGHT AN EXCUSE. Do not give them video to use as propaganda.

Keep it NON-VIOLENT.

Especially now, be extra vigilant what news you spread and what information you believe.

People who order things on #DoorDash, #UberEats, #MenuLog and the like, do you try to take into account how far the place you're ordering from is? I don't want the delivery driver to have to drive ages away just because I live in a shit part of town.

(I also notice how hard these platforms try to downplay distance)

The restaurant is already paying for your delivery in its inflated prices (in combination with the inflated minimum you have to spend to qualify for free delivery even when you're paying for UberOne).

UberOne just means you don't give UberEats another delivery fee on top for doing absolutely nothing.

‘I worked for Uber Eats – Here are the secrets I’m not supposed to tell you’

Tom, 33, who asked not to share his surname as he still works for the platform, told Plates Express that while most customers are polite, the job isn’t always straightforward — and when he’s hungry, stressed, or disrespected, he sometimes bends the rules.

“I try to be professional. But when you’re stuck in traffic with someone’s chips next to you and you’ve not eaten in hours, it’s tough,” he said.

“I’ve Taken Chips. Plenty of Times.”

Tom admits he’s dipped into customer food more than once — especially when the packaging isn’t sealed or the bag’s already half open.

“I don’t make a habit of it, but yeah, I’ve taken fries. Everyone does, whether they admit it or not. You’re five hours in, tired, hungry, and the food’s just there — it happens.”

“One night I was out late, hadn’t eaten all day. The bag was open, and I took a nugget. Not proud of it — but also not the first.”

“If You’re Rude, I Don’t Rush”

Tom says the way a customer behaves can influence how quickly their food arrives.

“I do my best to be quick, but if someone starts messaging me saying ‘where are you?’ or ‘hurry up’, I slow down. I’m not gonna race across town for someone who’s giving me grief.”

“I get that people are hungry, but I’m juggling traffic, queues, and tight timings. When they’re rude, it just puts me off.”

Other Things He’s Seen on the Job

On doorbell cameras:

“You see all sorts. One guy opened the door in his pants with a snake round his neck. I’ve delivered to people mid-row, mid-nap — even one who forgot they ordered and tried to shut the door on me.”

On restaurant hygiene:

“Most places are fine, but there are a few I try to avoid. Floors greasy, staff not washing hands, food sitting under the heat lamp for way too long. Makes you think twice.”

On tips and appreciation:

“If someone tips or just says thank you, I do try to remember them. I don’t get the same people often, but when I do, I’ll make sure their food stays upright, dry — whatever it takes.

But if they ignore me or slam the door, yeah… I’m not going out of my way next time.”

A spokesperson from Plates Express, who conducted the interview, said:

“We were surprised by how honest Tom was — especially about eating chips straight from the bag. It’s not something you expect to hear

It’s always worth being polite and understanding that drivers aren’t in control of everything. Traffic, restaurant delays, weather — there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.”

Any idea where someone could find work in #NewYorkCity? I've tried applying to city/state jobs but haven't seen any response. #UberEats, #GrubHub, and #TaskRabbit are blocking sign ups in the area. Currently looking at options for homelessness.

Wow #UberEats works great until you need customer service, then is absolutely infuriating:

Placed a delivery order to wrong address, app didn't allow me to undo and charged me a cancellation fee because "the restaurant already accepted the order".

After 30 minutes of useless chats to customer service, I called the restaurant's manager who told me they have order ready for pickup but wont get paid for it. Turns out Uber POCKETS the cancellation fee.

Uninstalled app.

It's 2025 and Numbers.app (Apple's Excel-type app) can't do a two-axis graph with a stacked column? Really?

Boo...

Well anyway, I guess if I want to see my weekly #DasherLife earnings vs. time this is the best I can do! I refuse to submit to Excel :D

I'll clean it up later… nothing really surprising here. Everything is grouped by week with the blue bar being the total earned for that week and the components of that total beside.
