#useR2024

What a nice article to remember Friedrich “Fritz” Leisch, one of the unsung heroes of #RStats: journal.r-project.org/articles. Didn't know anything about his work until #user2024. Much more impressed about all of his contributions to the language and the tools surrounding it.

Finally the efforts of the #useR2024 dev day landed R-devel!! Some improvements on Rd2HTML mainly for #rstats accessibility.

@eliocamp created the patch while I was identifying the issues. There are still some issues that can be improved as explained & discussed on the (now closed) issue bugs.r-project.org/show_bug.cg

Happy new year! I'm trying to recall some details of the talk by Kurt Hornik on #useR2024. I found the slides, but would like to hear what was said about a specific topic. Although many of the conference content is on the Youtube account youtube.com/@useRConference_gl, I haven't found that talk (event if it was a keynote). Does anyone know if it was recorded and if it will be shared? I wanted to confirm about some CRAN policies/practices before asking directly/publicly on a #rstats mailing list.

My Keynote talk "Keep R Weird" from #user2024 is now on YouTube!

Thank you so much, @useR_conf for having me - it was truly a special conference and a joy to learn new things about #rstats alongside my fellow weiRdos.

I wrote a blog post about my experience at #useR2024 :rstats: : llrs.dev/post/2024/07/28/the-m
I focus on the ambient and my purpose of going there and not the content.

Comment here and explain your experience!

This survey is open to anyone that attended either the virtual event (2 July), or the in-person event (8-11 July), or wishes to provide feedback on why they did not attend useR! 2024.

Happy to have seen this particular artwork in Munich's amazing Lenbachhaus, on the way home from #useR2024 -- so very apt!

@njtierney @kellybodwin @PipingHotData Having added tests, @maelle looked at the source and suggested using `withr::local_seed()` (as opposed to `set.seed()`). A good reason why it’s worth following package good-practice, even for silly packages, you get to learn about package better-practice!

Also, this was very much the theme of @fontikar’s talk at #useR2024 userconf2024.sched.com/event/1

The @inbo checklist #rstats package (inbo.github.io/checklist) checks your code using a set of hard coded rule files. Hard coding the rule forces users to stick to the rules set by the organisation. Feedback at #useR2024 suggests that other organisations might want to use different rules. Any suggestions on how we can allow an organisation to specify a rule set file which cannot be changes by the users. Maybe a standardised git repo like @rOpenSci does to setup a custom R-universe?

Interested in #spatial #networks, #openstreetmap data, and #rstats ? Last week I presented the #sfnetworks package at #useR2024 and gave a simplified example of how it can be used to analyze OSM-based street networks. You can find a notebook with the code on GitHub: luukvdmeer.github.io/UseR2024/

@rbuch Here's the song lyrics from my #useR2024 talk, to the tune of "Pure Imagination"

We'll begin specify()ing
To define() the world of your creation
You'll then see how to try
Data generate()-ion

If you want to run in parallel
Simply add a future() to it
Anything you want reproduced, set.seed() it,
Want to test your world?
Simply use fit()

There is no way, I know
To compare with simpr simulation
Coding there, you'll be free
If you truly wish to be

Does anyone know if, where and when will the talks from useR2024 be available? I found the virtual talks, but not the regular ones. #rstats #user2024 perhaps @Lluis_Revilla ?

Definitely a different conference experience! I am happy I did not miss all of #useR2024 and that I could still enjoy this wonderful conference! Thank you to all the organizers and the wonderfull people who helped me with my limited mobility!
