The #US imposes 30% of #UStariffs to the #EuropeanUnion. According to Politico, the Commission is ready to retaliate. EU OS believes that a European response with Tariffs on US BigTech services (or all services that face trade deficits) would make so much more sense if the EU had alternatives for those in place. This is why #EU_OS, #EuroStack and #DigitalSovereignty is important. It offers more leverage.

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine trade officials will fly to the United States next week to pursue a bilateral comprehensive economic agreement.

Special Assistant to the President Frederick Go told reporters on Thursday, July 10, that he will travel to the US with Trade Secretary Cristina Roque and other trade officials to renegotiate the 20% reciprocal tariff rate imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Go expressed concern that the reciprocal duty was increased from the original 17%, but highlighted that the 20% levy is still lower than the rates imposed on regional peers.

“The fact remains however that the 20% rate is the second lowest among all reciprocal tariffs that the US has imposed on the region — the lowest being the 10% off, Singapore,” he said.

Go said that he believes a face-to-face discussion with US trade officials would be more effective. It will also allow the Philippine government to request for specific tariff concessions.

“For example, for our coconut industry. Because if we are just negotiating, for example, if we can bring it down from 20% to 10%, our coconut industry still has a 10% tariff,” he explained in a mix of English and Filipino.

“But if our coconut exports are very important, in a bilateral negotiation, we can negotiate for dropping that to 0%.”

The 20% duty will be applied to all Philippine exports, but key products such as semiconductors remain exempted as they were deemed

Trump sets 50% US tariffs on copper, 20% on Philippines starting August

fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.rapp

US President Donald Trump launched his global tariff assault into overdrive on Wednesday, July 9, announcing a new 50% tariff on US copper imports and a 50% duty on goods from Brazil, both to start on August 1.

“I am announcing a 50% TARIFF on Copper, effective August 1, 2025, after receiving a robust NATIONAL SECURITY ASSESSMENT,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social media platform, a reference to a “Section 232” national security trade investigation into the red metal that has been underway.

The announcement came hours after he also informed Brazil that its “reciprocal” tariff on August 1 would rise to 50% from 10%, a shockingly high level for a country with a balanced US trade relationship.

Trump first broached the copper tariff during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, setting off a scramble by companies to import as much copper as soon as possible from Chile and other major suppliers.

He blamed the decline of the US copper industry on past administrations, saying copper was needed for semiconductors, aircraft, electric vehicle batteries and military hardware.

“America will, once again, build a DOMINANT Copper Industry,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s Brazil tariff order came in a letter to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that vented anger over what he
