A couple of weeks ago I was showing a friend the ins and outs of VCV rack and got lost in the music, after a while he just plonked his mobile phone down by the speaker and started recording.

I'm convinced that anyone who enjoys playing with #modularsynth is very much in touch with their inner child.
Because let me tell you, my inner 8 year old is practically SQUEE-ing with delight at the teeny tiny little VCO <-> Delay <-> Sequencer loop I created using #vcvrack
Make no mistake, you can't dance to this, and it's not THAT cool on its face... BUT I made it in 3-4 minutes of twiddling, and I am having a BALL with this software.
My hope is that this will eventually wend its way back to the Akai #midi keyboard I tried to teach myself to play piano on, and I think it will, but for now I am enjoying making crazy sounds with voltage, oscillators and the like immensely.
Not been feeling super-inspired lately when it comes to making music, but do enjoy making these beatless, wobbly, detuned sounds in #vcvrack . You can't really do stuff like this easily in a tracker.
Here's a teaser video for the #vcvrack version of "dSpec" a #eurorack module I am working on. I also have my first hardware prototype up and running.
It is a direct spectral synthesis VCO meaning it builds a waveform from a harmonic spectrum. Five base algorithms generate an initial spectrum modulated under CV control.
It is duophonic: 2xVPOs , 2xOuts. A built-in quantizer constrains the generated notes to a selected scale and range.
All of this playing with #modularsynth anf #vcvrack has me thinking.

Feedback modulation thing I made in #vcvrack last night. It's a mod matrix modulating itself. One knob turns all the other knobs by some amount, and they each do that to each other. Then I found an osc with a bunch of patch points and it kind of snowballed from there.

in preparation stages for a live performance later this year, had been considering working #vcvrack into my setup, but i'm having big reservations.
Rack has a problem making it unreliable in a live setting, namely that i can streamline a patch so that it is low on CPU load, and is stable, but there will still be random, unpredictable CPU load spikes.
the meter will show max CPU load in the 40 or 50% range, but every now and again will spike up to 300% for a second causing dropouts & clicks
