U.S. GO HOME hat dafür gesorgt, dass sich vor meinem geistigen Auge eine Kontinuitätslinie von der Nouvelle Vague bis zu Steve McQueens LOVERS ROCK (2020) aus dessen Filmreihe Small Axe aufgetan hat. Claire Denis inszeniert hier mit der Unerschrockenheit des französischen Kinos der 1960er und geht inhaltlich Hand in Hand mit Godard, indem sie ähnliche politische Diskurse nicht nur im Subtext austrägt, sondern sie furchtlos an der Oberfläche verhandelt.
Dafür wählt sie, wie Steve McQueen in LOVERS ROCK, eine Party als Debattenfeld, auf dem es dann um das Politische zwischen Mann und Frau, um Geschlechterrollen, um Machtverhältnisse, um Moralvorstellungen und Sex geht. Die Jugend ist politisch und will nicht nur Gegenstand der Debatten sein, sondern den Diskurs aktiv mitgestalten – gerade, wenn politisch einiges in Bewegung ist wie hier kurz nach der Gründung der Europäischen Union.
Ich habe den letzten Akt jedoch als pessimistischen Blick auf Frankreich und/oder Europa gelesen. Denn man kann noch so reflektiert durchs Leben gehen, immer mit einem sehr akademischen Blick die Welt wahrnehmen und kluge Vorstellungen für eine künftige Gesellschaft formulieren. Aber wenn man dabei nicht merkt, dass man sich schon längst im Auto des imperialistischen Kapitalismus durch die Gegend kutschieren lässt.
