Our exhibition at Berlin Science Week opens November 1st!

How powerful are collections and archives? The exhibition "Power in/of Collections" delves into this inquiry, involving scholars from the Technical University, Humboldt University, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford.

The exhibition is part of the Forum of Berlin Science Week at Holzmarkt Berlin and is open from 3-7 pm 1-10 Nov, with presentations by some of the participating scholars on 5 November from 12-3 pm

Jan Frans van Dael, known as a traditional painter of flower and fruit still lifes in Paris, creates something completely different here. He probably did this for fun, because the result is an image of his own house. In retrospect, the registration of such an everyday scene turns out to have become a highlight. Has Van Dael explored and exceeded his artistic boundaries?

So you've done some crowdsourcing/citizen science, machine learning/AI, or both, with museum, library or archive collections. What now? Does the data end up in a collections management system, or does it sit on a drive somewhere?

Share your experiences with enriched data. Our survey should take about 15 mins:

Today volunteer @WitcherClo is arranging an ichthyosaur in our fossil collection. There's a lot of tiny fragments for such a large skeleton, but enough is preserved to see the animal start to take shape.

Yesterday, our constant care for our collection took a group of our team to a few minutes’ walk South of the museum to the Überseequartier #subway station. There we have an external display showing a spectacular 1:100 scale model of the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 (1967) built by Günther Nitz. #maritime #museum #hamburg

I visited the #VADTartan exhibition at the V&A Dundee a few days ago and was very impressed with the broad range of objects displayed as well as by the diverse stories and viewpoints expressed through the interpretative materials. Here is a small selection of garments that caught my eye.

This exhibition runs through Sunday, 14 January 2024.

#introduction as I'm new here. I am an assistant curator #histodon in modern & contemporary History at National Museums Scotland. I love all things Scottish history & museums/heritage in general. I was a dancer and dance teacher (and piano teacher) before I changed careers due to becoming increasingly disabled. I am a bendy (hypermobility spectrum disorder), so hello to all my fellow #zebras and #ChronicPain #disability community. I love #museums #heritage #history #archaeology #Discworld #cats
