#Palaeoecologist using #microfossils to understand #climate/environmental change; really like #invertebrates, well, all #animals, #plants, #nature; #photographer, writer and editor; intersectional feminist, climate and social justice; she/her Profile pic by my talented kid. I'm sure she'd take commissions :)

More herring gulls from Whitstable, UK. Lots of flapping about, landing, taking off and landing again. Free seaside entertainment and not a chip stolen! #wildlife #nature #birds #photography
Herring gull, Whitstable, Kent, UK. Considered to be the bane of the English seaside but I quite like them - intelligent, adaptable birds #nature #photography #birds
Bird reserves are also great for plants! A few from @RSPB Rainham Marshes - common teasel, wild carrot flower head, composite of some sort (forgot to look at the leaves!) and bulrush that’s exploded #nature #botany #Macrophotography
Male and female ruddy darters. Gorgeous dragonflies that love to pose :) These two were seen (amongst loads of other dragonflies and damselflies) at @RSPB Rainham marshes this weekend #odonata #nature #invertebrates
Brunch prep was interrupted by this gorgeous beast. Vulpes Vulpes, red fox, London #urbanwildlifephotography #nature #foxes
Beautiful male Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) just hanging out :) Becoming more common across England and Scotland #invertebrates #urbanwildlife #nature
Phun with phytos!
A few thousand years ago, there was a little flowering plant near a small tell site in Iraq, and it left this really cool clue behind - evidence that it once lived :)) This is a multi-branched trichome phytolith, basically hair cells. This one may come from the Asteraceae (daisy) family (maybe maybe, still researching this one!), so one of some 32,000+ species 😳

@alexhaist that’s what mums do best :))) and yeah, she’s a fab kid and a great invert hunting partner
@nev ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@alexhaist oh dear! I hope your mum saw the positive side of that after the initial shock! My daughter has been my ‘bug spotter’ (that includes mammals, reptiles, birds… 🤣) for years (she’s 14 now) - she is most excellent! She found this in the long grass and was determined to get it (gently of course) so I could photograph it. It was quite the runner 🤣
@markus_quandt indeed there is! Well spotted! The one in the bushes was the surprise one for me :)))
How many goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis) can you spot? You may have to tap/click for the whole image. Taken today in London #urbanwildlife #nature #birds
Some mums get flowers from their kids. I get spiders 🤣🤣😍 Immature Tibellus sp found in the long grass by the kiddo today (London) #spiders #nature #urbanwildlife #macro
Misumena vatia (flower crab spider) with not just one, but two flies! That’s just greedy 🤣🤣🤣 #urbanwildlife #spiders #macrophotography
A former #Florida police officer now living in moscow is creating #fake stories using #AI posing as local U.S. newspapers. His fake story that Zelenskyy’s wife bought a $4.5 million Bugatti was spread by millions of pro-russian #US social media accounts.

This is the lovely & rather large hoverfly, Volucella inflata. June/July are the peak months for adults to fly about, nectaring on bramble flowers, etc. They are found mainly in woodlands with mature trees, in SE England (although spreading slowly north). This was found in woodlands in London #insects #pollinators #nature #Macrophotography
Some good news to start the day.
