Medically there's no "right answer" because they are synonyms: Both hyperCAPNia & hyperCARBia *mean* having an increased PaCO2.
But to a certain ground of "medical linguists" there is an important etymological difference:
You see HyperCAPNia comes from the Greek word hyper (high) + the Greek word kapnos (smoke); both Greek roots is 👍
HyperCARBia comes from the word Greek hyper + the *Latin* word Carbos (meaning charcoal); Some consider the mismatch of Greek & Latin roots to be 👎
