Here's your annual warning to beware hanging out in person with Defcon attendees, because many of them have returned with asymptomatic COVID infections.

As in every year since 2021, Defcon is a super spreader event. Many COVID infections are NOT symptomatic: not showing symptoms does not guarantee not carrying the highly contagious virus.

Yes, there’s another phishing campaign contacting fediverse users to fill out a form to avoid being suspended or whatever. Stay calm and just report them and be sure to check the option to inform their home instance so the account gets suspended for everyone.

Also, please consider enabling moderated signups if you don’t already have them. I get it - signups dropped by >90% when I did it, but there’s very little capability for dealing with bad actors proactively once they have an account. I know it’s not a foolproof way to keep the scammers out, but it is an improvement.

A general warning to the #AmWriting community: There is a new type of #scammer active on #Facebook, and I have reason to believe that they are active on #Mastodon as well.

These scammers pretend that they are famous authors, and claim that they want to "assist you on your writing journey". Which is odd - why would "famous authors" want to start a new account just to help other authors, instead of their own works?

No doubt this approach is intended to get you to spend lots of money on some "consulting service" which will get you "additional sales and reviews". So be aware, and be deeply suspicious of anyone contacting you out of the blue who pretends to be a famous author.

We need to destigmatize getting tested for STD's. It's just a blood test like every other blood test.

I was so scared the first time I got tested. That's all due to internal voices that have been trained that somehow we've done something "wrong".

Normalize getting tested. And then don't vote for the politicians who want to take away all the treatment and prevention options.

We've noticed an increase in spam or scam messages pretending to be admins, asking you to "verify" or "confirm" your account through unofficial profiles.

👉 On https://meow.social/, we never contact you for verification. The only confirmation occurs via an automated email at signup. That’s it.

🔍 Fake admin accounts are easy to spot — they usually come from other servers, since meow.social doesn't have open registrations.

✔️ The only official account we use for announcements is @TransparencyReports.
✔️ All staff members have a visible label on their profile, both on the web interface and in some apps like Tusky.

❗ If you're unsure:
– Check the profile carefully
– Review your server's "About" page
– And most importantly, report the account so your admins can take action — not only on meow.social, but across the Fediverse.

I’m needing a little help from the development community.

I’m needing to move my blog to a different platform. After a plea and an apology, I’m not going to be able to stay where it’s at.

Problem is, due to my health issues and my work, which exacerbates my issues, I’m unable to devote time I’d like to anymore to developing.

Would anyone be willing to customize an eleventy theme for me? Nothing too splashy. I like the Eleventy Excellent but, want it customized a bit.

I’ll be using GitHub Pages again for my blog.
