I received a lovely comment on my blog overnight:
"Loved your story. Isn’t it wonderful that all true genealogists are so generous with their time in helping others?"
I couldn't agree more, Yvonne. The world of genealogy is like one big family. (Which is rather apt!)
To those celebrating Father's Day, hope you have a great day. To those that no longer have your Dad around, or had a difficult relationship and find this day hard, hugs. X
Quite glad tomorrow is Friday. It’s been a tough couple of weeks. I need SLEEP!!! 😴😴😴😴
#OnThisDay, 25 Apr 1990, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro becomes the first woman to be elected President of Nicaragua. She served for six years, stabilising the economy.
Chamorro's husband had been a leader in the opposition to the Somoza regime, and was murdered in 1978. Chamorro took over his work and was alongside revolutionary leader Daniel Ortega when the Sandinista took control of the county. She then became critical of Ortega's rule.
@stux Hope your dad feels better soon. I had it and it was horrible.
Had really vivid dreams again last night. Have forgotten what they were about. They weren’t as weird as the tiger ultrasound. I don’t think I’ll be training as a vet any time soon! 🤣🤣
Had weird #dreams that I was working in #LondonZoo last night. We were looking after the #tigers and doing ultrasounds on them. Now discussing how to fix #shower drains in a group for our building. Not even had my coffee yet. Need to connect a printer this morning, too. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Meet Lola! Her caregiver says Lola is a little weird. She demands head rubs by standing on her hind legs like a meerkat. She can stay like that for 10 minutes! She meows loudly and often. One of her favorite things to do is hide. She can’t figure out how people keep finding her.
Henrietta Lacks was still alive when the remarkable qualities of the cells from her tumour were discovered. Yet nobody thought to tell her. It was only decades later that her family learned of the use of her cells.
Apparently there's going to be a new Three Musketeers movie with a Black D'Artagnan, and the usual suspects are doing the usual howling about wokeness and ahistoricity and so on. So here's your regular reminder the The Three Musketeers was written by a Black man. Dumas' father was the son of an enslaved African woman and a French Marquis (not a pretty story there), and he rose to become a hero of the French Revolutionary Wars and a General-in-Chief in the French army.
@seatsixtyone Would love to travel by train more. So hard to get the cheaper tickets. It’s just prohibitive at the moment.
Eurostar say leisure travel is back to 100% of pre-pandemic levels & business travel 80-85%. But due to Brexit they can only provide 70% of pre-pandemic capacity. They've plans to resolve this including trialling online check-in, I've added a summary at https://www.seat61.com/news.htm

#OTD 1536, Katharine of Aragon http://bit.ly/1Wj6HMS was buried in Peterborough Cathedral. Henry VIII, having cast her off as a wife, was determined to make the point that she was his sister-in-law, and she was therefore buried as dowager princess of Wales. A marble monument was raised to Katharine but no trace remains, just a monument paid for by collection from women of England named Katharine (or any variant) in 19th C. Royal arms restored by Queen Mary, w. of George V. #histodons #queens
Many of our followers benefited from Erasmus....and so did their countries. Such benefits were reaped both by their country of origin and their host country.

Johnson has trousered £1M in just over 6 weeks but the taxpayer gets the £220,000+? bill for his legal fees. Because that’s the ‘established precedent’. It’s also the ‘established precedent’ that ministers be sacked for serious breaches of the ministerial code. But they routinely ignore that one.
That aside though, in a country where so many cannot afford legal representation and legal aid has been cut to the bone, to have taxpayers forking out for Johnson’s legal fees, is beyond sickening.
I’ve had Covid twice, now have immune dysfunction, and I’m terrified of getting it again because of successive damage. And yet people refuse to mask up to protect others. Instead they act like the pandemic is over.
Wearing a mask is an act of love, to protect those around you. I don’t understand why people get upset about it.
