Bjr, je suis chercheur, climatologue au @CNRS.

Mon expertise porte sur la variabilité climatique (des échelles saisonnière a multidécennale) & a leur prévisibilité. Spécialiste egalement du #ChangementClimatique, j'ai participé (auteur principal) au 6e rapport #GIEC sur les bases physiques du climat.

This past week the scientific community took a step forward and more specifically all the meteorologists/oceanographers/hydrologists.
#MTG-I1 & #SWOT are now in space and will provide their data very soon. Both satellites are a revolution in their respective domain.
I’m particularly thrilled to see this mission achieved as I did my PhD in the framework of the #SWOT and now working in collaboration with #EUMETSAT on #MTG.
Looking forward to see how 2023 will be with these 2 🛰

🥶 Le thermomètre est resté en-dessous de la barre de 0 °C tout au long de la journée ce samedi à Paris.

C'est la première fois depuis le 10 février 2021, soit il y a près de deux ans. On avait atteint 0 °C tout pile dimanche 11 décembre, puis 0,2 °C le lendemain.

A l'échelle nationale, ce samedi devrait d'ailleurs être la journée la plus froide de cette première séquence hivernale.

Cet été a été marqué par des tensions sur la ressource en eau et une contestation des choix politiques pour pallier les pénuries.
En décembre @florencehabets et l'agence de l'eau Seine Normandie m'ont demandé un résumé des messages du rapport du #GIEC sur ces questions.

Dans ce domaine, l'adaptation a été très marquée par une priorité donnée à l'augmentation de l'offre: stockage d'eau, désalinisation, etc.
Mais agir sur la demande de manière concertée pourrait limiter les conflits entre usagers.
Cela nécessite une volonté de coopérer.

Dans le secteur de l'eau, les risques de l'adaptation actuels sont des coûts croissants des dommages et/ou pour l'adaptation, les impacts pour les écosystèmes, des mesures d'adaptation perpétuant des pratiques non soutenables.
Au-delà de 3°C: des limites dures à l'adaptation.

My PhD. A summary in plain language…. I’m creating new types of climate data that aren’t average. Because average is Wrong.

Two things: the climate varies year to year with wild swings in the southern hemisphere AND because of climate change, we don’t know what average is anymore.

Why it matters? We use climae data to make lots of regulatory decisions. Including how houses should be built. We have to get it right.
