I've worked on design systems at Salesforce, DocuSign, and startups. Opinions my own. (Searchable.)

There's a lot of stuff going on in the world. All I know is in general: be patient with people, create real human connections, trust but verify, plan, make backup plans, lean into empathy. I think we all need this more now than ever.
Once you know the landscape, then you can work on a plan: maybe you need to give more training, maybe you need a broader feedback funnel from DS consumers, maybe you need to align roadmaps, maybe you need better governance. As you implement the plan, you can see how your organization responds and gain fans that will help influence change. #DesignSystems #OrganizationalChange #Influencing #Feedback
Exactly. As a #DesignSystems practitioner, one of the best tools you have is to get to know people on a personal basis. Literally: talk to everyone even tangentially related to the DS, not just the immediate designer and engineer consumers. You will come to understand people's perceptions of the DS in your organization and where it can improve. You can see who cares about the DS's success, and also who holds misconceptions about what value it can provide.
Cross-post from my LinkedIn: a quote I liked from Sheryl Cababa's "Closing the Loop" book: "In systems thinking, the goal is to understand interconnectedness, causality, and wholeness. ... Where are the relationships? How are they affecting each other? Do diverse problems trace back to a root cause that has many different outcomes?" #DesignSystems #Research #ProjectManagement
I love meeting and talking w/ people who are passionate about #DesignSystems. It's so nice to go further than just a like or a connect on social media, and to have an actual live conversation.
#Clarity2024 will be an online event this year, held September 25&26, 2024.
Early Bird presale tickets are available now.
Stay tuned for more announcements including revealing the speakers!
@SteveFaulkner @hdv I blogged about it: https://yatil.net/blog/wcags-a-and-aa-distinction-is-mostly-academic
7 principles of #UniversalDesign: 1) equitable use, 2) flexibility in use, 3) simple and intuitive use, 4) perceptible information, 5) tolerance for error, 6) low physical effort, 7) size and space for approach and use. See these principles at work in the Ed Roberts campus in this video of the Center for Independent Living at UC Berkeley: https://youtu.be/G-tHuD7R8cs?si=fxAaoWF3th0kVryt #Accessibility #Principles #Architecture #IndustrialDesign #ProductDesign
Hello #designSystem people! Join me this Friday where we talk about what you think makes design systems thrive in your organization. Take this quick survey to get an invite link. https://bit.ly/3vJ3qQx #DesignSystems #Collaboration #TheQuestion
A good reminder that people with disabilities often known how to ask for help. All it takes is you taking their requests seriously: https://www.erikkroes.nl/blog/be-flexible-about-what-people-need-and-dont-assume/
Like you, I spend my time inside cyberspace, peering at it through 2D monitors and touchscreens. But, our bodies are in 3D. We eat in 3D. We sleep in 3D. How can we make our world more beautiful and accessible using the principles of #DesignSystems? I'm pushing towards something. Do you want to talk? Ping me. https://www.linkedin.com/in/amyleesf/ #Accessibility #ModernModular #ProductDesign
@walruslifestyle @amyleesf Heard. What might be a good way to tell the story of an #actuallydisabled person?
Doing some accessibility research for the European Accessibility Act (EAA) which eventually points to mostly WCAG 2.1 AA, but with additional requirements. #accessibility #a11y #EAA #WCAG https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/web-accessibility-directive-standards-and-harmonisation
Oh, you are going to love, or, hate those Framer components inspired by Dieter Rams.
Their level of sensory satisfaction is super high for me, they look like they were made with that vintage soft plastic I love (but maybe you hate this), I can almost feel it. They also make very satisfying noises. If a webpage was a fidget, this would be it for me.
So, love, or hate those?

How do you work through a tough problem or make a new product? How do you come up with a plan? I like to start with a goal and work backwards. https://medium.com/@amster/stay-gritty-push-towards-a-goal-1721a6de5003 #ProductDevelopment #GoalSetting #Goals #Projects #dependencies
My latest focus has been to expand from the flat 2D screen to the 3D built world. I've been deep-diving into technologies, standards, and assistive devices. I think that now more than ever we must plan for the people who currently have a disability and for the people who will acquire them. I am starting with me. #accessibility #AssistiveTech #3D #VR #AR #AI #robotics
"Disability is a natural aspect of the human condition. As people live longer, as we fight more wars, as medical care continues to improve, more and more people who might have died in an earlier era will live—perhaps with a disability. We should accept it, plan for it, build our society around it." Judith Heuman, "Being Heumann". #accessibility #a11y #disability #BuiltEnvironment #aging #rehab
I also want to write up some notes about the #accessibility features like pointer following. VoiceOver, however, is iffy and hard to control. #a11y
The #VisionPro is definitely heavy. But it's usable. With the over-head strap I notice the weight a lot less--your face isn't squished. Also, thankfully the prescription lens inserts totally work. The screen resolution is fine; if it were just a bit finer it would be great.
