The main presentation is a little cheesy, but one of the bonus resources was this deck with Success Stories of some of Apple's biggest customers (at the time), including a pretty detailed description of their exact setups.

Interesting window into how all this vintage stuff was used in its heyday!

Being from 1990, it expects System 6.0.3 (ideally with MultiFinder disabled).

Basilisk can't run System 6 (without mods) and Mini vMac can't read UDIF images. So I had to use Basilisk to copy the files onto a blank DSK image to run them on the Mac II version of Mini vMac (running System 7.0).

Today in archived software:

@mac84tv was curious about Apple sales training CDs from the early 90s.

Here's an archived copy of Sales Training 105: The Apple Advantage: archive.org/details/sales-skil

Given that this has to be my favourite Hartmut Esslinger/frog design prototype for Apple, I am in awe.

Design, 3D printing, electronics, custom mechanical keyboard, everything packed neatly, the workflow. This is *insane* work. šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

The actual 1984 Apple Macintosh touchscreen tablet prototype. This device is flat with a display and a keyboard underneath it. It has an integrated handle on the right side. There’s no bezel around the keyboard, and each key is shaped like a trapezoid.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival really is one of my favorite ways to spend a week of vacation.

Seeing five shows a day! Comedy, musicals, circus, mime, people being great at what they do! People being bad at what they do but doing it anyway!

It’s a good time.

It’s here! @Gmatom sent me this beautiful cross-stitch rendition she made of the Secret History of Mac Gaming cover. Best gift I’ve had in years.
Photo of a framed cross stitch depicting the Secret History of Mac Gaming book cover. It's an illustration of a Macintosh Plus with the game Amazing! on the screen, with a pull down menu open, and the book title and author name underneath.

So here’s the #VCFWest #VCFWesf2024 album! There is a…lot of sea slugs involved. I also may have realized my camera’s aperture was too open a touch too late.

@mac84tv @tegbains Great tip! I hope it’s something as simple as that. ā¤ļø

@cowperthwait According to this article: ā€œIt works, but it’s slow and has other problemsā€ (and hadn’t even been tried until 2022) katelibc.medium.com/porting-do

@cowperthwait A/UX! Apple’s UNIX, not IBM’s (which ran on the later Apple Network Servers, which alas I have never encountered)

@Phyxis Tell me more! I would have guessed this was one of the least interacted-with models.

@tegbains Just lit it up — it chimes, but after ~20sec gives the Chime of Death.

I suspect a RAM test issue, but we’ll investigate more when it’s on the bench!

Got this big boi at #VCFWest consignment! It was expensive, but it’s instantly one of the most interesting things in my collection.

@vga256 It didn’t! This Performa has the DOS Compatibility Card so it’s running on top of Windows 95 (on top of a real 486)

Here’s a great Twitter thread by @cabel about the types of slide shows this system would have controlled: x.com/cabel/status/14730689839

Did I know there were co-branded Apple IIs besides the black Bell & Howell version? I did not!

Check out this gray Clearlight Apple II, designed to control slide projectors for elaborate corporate slide shows.
